loose Midsection

I'm coming to the end of a fatloss diet. I plan to move to a mass diet next. I do HIIT and resisance trainng 5 days a week. Two years ago I had a beer belly - today its no more! However I greatly need to tighten my midsection. Crunches dont seem to do the trick. I am very dedicated to finishing my goal. What can I do to firm up my front and side abs? I can pinch about an inch and a half on the front and sides. Any help is appreciated.

Unfortunately, the ab fat is usually the last to go. Men & women don't start to show abs until their body fat % is pretty low. (For women, it's 14%. For men, probably around 10-12%)

Success with abs depends mainly on diet. You need to post your body stats - height, weight, etc. - and your diet up. It sounds like you still have a higher percentage of body fat, and that is why you still have the inches on your abs. You could do a million crunches and never see them if your diet isn't right.

Your right - The ab fat is the last to go, and you certainlly have to work harder to burn it off. I have found through dieting that 90% of how you look and feel comes from your diet, and abs are made in the kitchen not the gym. As for my stats:

5'10 and I weigh 158 lbs, bodyfat is 7.5% (electronic caliper reading) LBS is around 147 lbs.

when I started:
Weighed 185 lbs, bodyfat was at least 18% (electronic caliper reading)
As you can read I have come a long way. I was by no means fat, but I did accumilate a hefty beer belly. Which has diminished into a pinch of skin.

I currently follow the BFFM diet and workout plan. I plan to up my HIIT for another month and see where that gets me.

It could be loose skin, since your body fat is so low. If you lost your weight rapidly, the skin around your midsection didn't have time to adjust to the loss, and is still in "stretch" mode. For some people, it never does come back nice and tight (especially for us women who've had babies.) You need advice on this from a male perspective.

Probably the case - I have only just reached this level so there might be a chance. While my bodfat is lower I think I still might be storing a small amount of fat in this area. I will definatly stay with it and try and incorporate more ab toning exercises on top of the usual dieting and strength training. I dont really know any other men who have gone through this. Hopefull someone in this forum will respond.

hey bro, i kind of had the same thing. i could never get my abs to pop. i then did cardio all the time and an intense ab routine right after my run. you could see them, but they wouldnt pop out much. so i started adding some weight resistence to my ab routine. such as holding a 35lb plate while doing roman chairs, decline board situps, regular situps, and holding a 15lb dumbell and doing in and outs. try that. and also stick to a good diet. i just got back into trying to get my midsection to bust out. i took about 3 months off of cardio, and now i'm back at it, getting more intense. let me know if that helps. try swimming as well.

Thanks diced - That's my plan. Intense cardio and intense ab exercises. My diet is going strong, I will stick to it and let you all know how it goes.
