London: man shot by police on Tube

but his family members shouldn't blame the police but rather the people who created this kind of atmosphere in the first place

What atmosphere? He was a SUSPECTED terrorist.

Do you know what SUSPECTED means? It wasn't been proven.

Why don't we just go one step further and execute SUSPECTED murderers too? Saves me tax dollars. I'm all for it brotha.

Next time an unarmed black male gets shot to death cuz he was reaching for his license during a traffic stop -- i'll remember that.

And how wise of you to start giving the pwoers of life or death to high-school educated cops. Wow. Faith in government is amazing isn't it?

If there's no THREAT, you DON'T KILL. Call me a wacko huh?

Heck why don't we just start opening fire on every police car chase too while we're at it?

Drug dealer running down the street? Why chase? Just shoot him now just to be safe. His fault for running.

When you get fucked over by cops one day -- feel free to read these threads.

I have been fucked over, as has my brother. In general I despise American police officers.

That doesnt change my opinion that, GIVEN THE SITUATION, I dont blame the officer for shooting.

atmosphere as in the fact that twice in a month bombs have gone off in similar areas has the police extremly on edge, middle eastern terrorists created this, they left people paranoid and unable to act rationally, you can't expect people who have just been through this trauma to act rationally when dealing with someone they think is about to once again blow something up, thats foolish and you cannot blame the police

I disagree on the basis I believe that the officer was indeed acting rationally.

by rational I mean following due process and police procedure to a T although I would have acted the same in his place, after a big attack on the gen public police officers should not be expected nor act as they had before the event, they're only human afterall

If the cops can't act rationally - they should PUT IN THEIR FUCKING GUNS and take a vacation.

""Witnesses at Stockwell spoke of panic as a man of south Asian appearance wearing an unseasonably thick jacket vaulted over station barriers as police chased, tackled, then shot him.

"I've never seen anything like it in my life. I saw them kill a man basically. I saw them shoot a man five times," witness Mark Whitby told BBC television.

Police said the man was connected to their investigation but did not say how. They removed his body from the station in the evening as the capital struggled to return to normal.

"It is not yet clear whether he is one of the four people we are seeking to identify and whose pictures have been released today," they said in a statement."

The government killing a suspect who poses no danger ... is murder.

Once you start rationalizing state-sponsored murders -- then, thereotically, there is no end to the amount of executions the state can sponsor.

Throw in patriot acts, rogue FBI agents, and there goes your liberties out the window.

God...how do you know he wasnt a danger?

Because by ALL the reports that i've been reading so far..

He tripped, and was already HELD DOWN in place by the cops.

and THEN they opened fire.

Even the witnesses interviewed point blank said "They executed the guy. Put the gun to his head and shot. It was scary".

This is some disturbing shit to read. No lover of human rights would be too enthralled with this.

I wonder if the British government will perform a cover-up of the highest order now. Since .. I don't think they have too many "3rd party civilian oversight police shooting" advisories and procedures in place like we do. Police shootings here is everyday shit. Not so there.

This may very well get swept under the rug in the name of "fighting terrorism" (amazing how much that happens lately).

well if he turns out to have been a terrorist then all this is moot and I'm glad, if not then yea it sucks but I still do not blame the officers, terrorists created the atmosphere for this kind of thing to happen

It's almost 24 hours later and there's still been no police statement.

At this stage I really don't care whether he was a terrorist. At no time, in this country, did resisting arrest become a capital offence. What are you going to do in a modern city when you notice that you're being followed by a handful of guys? I'd try and get away. His trying to flee from plain-clothes cops was no sign of any guilt.

Well, he's dead now and we're going to have to live with the consequences of what appear to be some incompetent decisions on the part of the commander of the unit that placed him earlier under surveillance and then allowed him to enter a crowded area. They certainly won't be questioning him.

One thing we cannot tolerate is this silence by the police of what many will see as an execution of someone they had already disabled. Maybe here in the UK we need to become accustomed to gun-carrying cops but then we need the same 3rd party oversight and safeguards that you guys have in the States.
