Lifting straps- OUCH!!!

Go to sportmart and buy some nice straps , only 6bucks. And they are soft. Throw that garbage away that you have now.

make some silk ones yourself, wimp. :)

I've found that the durability of the softer straps to be pretty lacking depending upon use (dynamic pulling exercises eat these alive). Try giving them a wash with some heavy fabric softener to loosen them up. If they still end up cutting into you like rawhide, switch them out for something else - if they do more harm than good it's kind of pointless fighting it.

Build your grip up so it can handle the weight.

Just my opinion.
Agreed. I hate them. Never used them and most likely never will. I know this is gonna piss some guys off but to me theyre no more useful a tool than those pads that people put on the bar for squats.

I wouldn't use straps unless you're doing shrugs. Build your grip up so it can handle the weight.

Agree

and you can build a strong grip pretty quickly

jsut got these for X-mas & used them yesterday on deadlifts. The straps are so stiff- they practically tore the skin off my wrists :worried:

any ideas to soften up the straps? I was thinking washing them in Downey or something :verygood:

I have some leather straps I got at Sports Authority & they are kinda soft on their own.....what kind are your MsB?? I also found a pair on the street that are material -- cotton I guess.

I need to use straps also on deadlifts, cuz as a woman, I lose my grip after a certain amount of weight.....

Yep wash and dry them and they will get softer. Just don't do it very often as it can weaken the material. The other way to go is to use them until they soften up and deal witht the torn up skin. The set I have has neoprene pads for the backs of the wrists, that's nice because they are super durable (7+ yrs) and comfortable. My bro makes fun of them all the time but them again he can't rack pull into the 700's and I can.

Mine are black 1/4" thick canvas. Found them at a local sporting goods store and have never seen another pair like them.

And don't make fun of the neoprene!

I disagree, if it wasn't for straps I wouldn't be lifting heavy anymore due to some ligament damage in my forearm.

well, if u absolutely need them in your case. but to use them for bench (like some people at mine and everyone elses gym), come on now. lol

ive seem them used for curling, benching, squatting, military forearms, calves, lol wtf

whys that? I dont think straps are anymore a cheat than weight belts... esp on heavy deadlifts when your grip will give out before your muscles.

weight belts, which i dont use either, are for preventing injuries. you cant use straps in a competition so why use them in training, even if ur never gonna comepete. thats just the way i think. train your forearms, to farmers walks or static holds.

You aren't getting the most out of your training then in my opinion. If doing heavy rows and your grip gives out before the muscle you aren't getting the back workout you could.

Same with shrugs, there is no way my grip would last when I do 4 plates a side, at least it wouldn't last for all the reps I could do had I used straps.

i dont really do heavy rows. 2 plates is what im working with at the moment. as for shrugs the heaviest ive ever gone was 365 for 5 w/o straps and 315 for about 12. and deaded 455 w/o straps, not a record, but heavy for me, my back gives out before my grip, always have, must be genetics..
