Last night dinner =$1240.00 Tip = $3.00

And if you go back to this Resturant AAP, there is a chance that you may
have the displeasure of having her not serve you again because no one
in Mgmt was made aware of her lack of service skills..

A Manager can't read minds regardless of how skilled s/he is at the job.
She likely "looked" busy when they were around.

i wouldn't have even given her the 3 bucks if i was in your position big brobowski..

The $3 tip would be more of an insult than not giving a tip at all. In theory, he could have forgotten to tip her, but in reality, he gave her $3 to show her he didn't forget.

Exactly.

Next time I am there again, you can rest assured I will NOT get her if she is there.

Exactly. What AAP did was a very low class move.

Absolutely not.

A tip, or gratuity, is a small amount of money given voluntarily as a token of appreciation for a service rendered. According to Webster's Dictionary, the word "tip" is also considered by many to be an acronym: T.I.P. - "To Insure Promptness" or "To Insure Prompt" service. We tip our servers as a way of thanking them for good service. We might also leave a very low tip, or no tip at all, as a signal that the service was terrible

She received a LIFE LESSON.

Some people work for tips others for referrals and repeat business but either way you still have to work to get paid.

The manager doesn't have to be a mind reader, her she just needs to be an effective manager. A good manager knows exactly what is going on at all their tables, a good manager will ask all of his or her tables if their stay at the restaurant is to their pleasure.

Unless we're talking places like Dennys...

Right on Vel!

that is their job.. to MANAGE..

I ALWAYS tip... almost always above the norm too... if service is shitty then its not above 15% but sure as hell I am gonna let them know that their service sucked and there is much needed improvement.

So now its the Managers fault and not the Waitstaff...
OK

Managers visiting the tables occasionally is normal practice at most all fine resturants from Outback on up. But not always 100% coverage

AAP, Did the Manager ask you how your meal was ?

Was this a small or large enough Resturant to preclude them
from visiting every table and every diner ?

I'm not debating the tip, just the lack of notice to the Management.

That's not what I said.

It's the waitresses fault she did not get a good tip but as the person dining it is not your responsibily to tell the manager, your tip or lack there of is telling the waitress her care was less than satisfactory.

Outback is a set up from Dennys, I would not expect much service there either - I would be estatic just to get hot food on a clean plate.

Believe me if the CHEF is bringing out the dinner the manager will know about it. The only time the Chef should be at a table is to socialize not serve.

At higher end places it's normal and expected for a manager to be making rounds and asking how everything is. The shitty service in this case wasn't the manager's immediate fault. The server screwed herself. It was a group effort on this one. The server sucked, she stood around doing nothing, talking to co-workers while AAP got up to get drinks from the bar. The manager screwed up by not noticing what went on and should have visited a high roller table to make sure they came back and had more dinners like that there.
