SHAMROCK SUSPENDED FOR A YEAR AFTER TESTING POSITIVE FOR STEROIDS
- The fight between Ken Shamrock and Bobby Lashley looks like it will not
happen as former UFC champ and WWE Intercontinental champion Ken Shamrock
was suspended for one year and fined $2,500 by the California State Athletic
Commission for testing positive after his fight against Ross Clifton last
month. 'The World's Most Dangerous Man' tested positive for a cocktail of
Stanozolol, Norandrosterone, Noretiocholanolone steroids according to the
Los Angeles Times. Shamrock won the fight against his big opponent and it
was his first win in a couple of years. We had Shamrock on Ringside Live a
few weeks before the actual fight and when asked what's his plan going in
against a much larger opponent, Shamrock said that the plan is "to avoid
getting hit!" I guess he forgot to mention the steroids part.

Ken is like 45yrs and still fighting... wow.

!

!

that is impressive, i got to say. but you got to admit, to train, recover, and fight at that age is damn near impossible without steroids. im by no means saying that steroids win fights for him, he a very skilled man.
but once again we have a fighter found using winny, what is the deal with this? when i tried winny i could barely job down the road, let alone grapple, kcikbox etc.

What do you mean? They helped Rocky win!

Ya and like all of them are not on steroids. Fuck this is why I hate the fact that this sport was main streamed like it has been. It used to be a real blood sport and at the time never tested for steroids like a bunch of pussies.

Bring back hank the tank. I remember one of shamrocks first fights was against this beast of a man. Now that is a real fight. This sport is turning for the worst. More gay rules, all this stop the fight bull crap and testing for steroids.

I agree 100%. I think in their attempt at going mainstream they are completely screwing it up. More rules, more testing ( but only on certain people ). Its bullshit. I'm sure Ken did take steroids but who cares, Have you seen the guy he was going to fight? 6'1'' 260 and looks like an off season pro bodybuilder. Yeah, I'm sure he is all natural.

did you hear about the whole bj penn st pierre thing? I thought that was interesting... looks like claims of GSP cheating in order to win... you're right needto this sport is definitely turning for the worst. mma.fanhouse.com/2009/02/18/ufc-94-fallout-b-j-penn-documents-cheating-by-georges-st-pi/

I dont know if I agree with this. though my knowledge of the sport at its infancy is slight to say the least (I do watch it religiously now), if I remember correctly they simply put to men in the cage and let them go at it - no rounds, no clock.
and from the fights that I have seen that used this format, after 7-8 minutes, the two were so tired, they just eneded up on the matt hugging eachother, rolling around. boring.
by implementing rounds (giving them that much needed 1 minute break) and limiting the fights to 3 / 5 minute rounds, along with giving the ref the option of standing them up etc. these all aid in keeping the fight moving and thus - in my opinion - more entertaining.

further, I would say the fighters are much better conditioned all around today then ten years ago. When you have a guy like Tank Abbot winning fights (holding a belt? is that correct?) something is wrong.

do you really think he could hold his own with the top heavy weights of todays UFC?

I am so SO sick of hearing about this tested positive bullshit.

I would honestly rather jump into a pit of ravenous lions than hear the media cover another story on "steroid abuse"

Who the fuck cares. Juice makes strong men.

Our government is afraid of strong patriotic men. That is the only rational reason I can come up with as to why synthetics aren't legal.

Alcohol abuse does far more damage than correct aas supplementation.

Ugh. I'm done with my rant.

It is about a real fight. Keeping it as close to a real fight as can be. Now it used to be about a real blood match fight. SO damn right a man like Tank abbot should hold a belt if he can go toe to toe with another man in a real fight and bash his skull in every time.

That is more correct then making it some round for round bull crap..

HA!!!!!!!!! I would laugh my ass off if some geek tried to call a time out in a real fight. Or started dinging some gay little bell. That is not a real fight. Real fights do not have rules and they do not have bells.

It used to be about REAL FIGHTING!!!!!!!!!!!! WHO CAN WIN IN A REAL FIGHT. IF YOU CAN'T BEAT MAN LIKE HANK THE TANK WITH OUT ROUNDS AND A BELL TO HELP YOUR TWIG ASS THEN YOU ARE NOT A REAL FIGHTER. YOU ARE A RING MAN.

I can't beleive you would say something like that. Like omg hank should not hold a belt because he can win in a real fight. He should not hold a belt because in a real fight he kicks ass.

blood sport, real fight,no bells,no gloves,no timed rounds. Just to men in a caged ring having a real blood sport fight like a real fight would happen. That is how you know who is a real UFC. not some timed ding ding I need a brake, o please stop this giant man from spilling my brains out of the side of my head.

If you need a reff to pull a man like that off of you then you are not a true UFC now are you.

UFC sucks now. I got a bunch of the old ufc on tape. You know when the only time you could get it is if you paid for the show. The good old days when reffs did not stop the fight. Men got there heads caved in. Now that was the good shit.

I see you are a Tank Abbot fan. If you ask me that dudes not a fighter. He isnt even on the same level as most of the UFC fighters in his class. Dudes lost 8 of the last 9 fights hes been in. Kimbo slice knocked him out for fucks sake. KIMBO SLICE!!!

No not a big fan of his per say. More of a fan of any man who can fight like a real fight. Not some timed round bullshit.

You know there is some guys that even though you got them down and you are bashing there face all to shit it don't mean the fight is over for them. It don't mean the reff has to end the fight.

Wow LOL I get a kick out of all this B.S. I follow the UFC (since its begining to the selling of it to the Zulfa's) and all the diffrent fighters. I laugh because alot of people have things to say like its not a real fight unless you beat the guys brains in...WTF If you had a fight on the streets and a dude was getting his ass kicked and you knew he was beat, why would you need to see the guy get his head smashed against the concrete to be satisfied?? I have had the opportunity to train with guys who fight in the UFC and let me just tell you, you have no clue how tuff these guys are. I talked shit all my life been in plenty of bar room bralls been knocked the fuck out. But that is all pussy shit compaired to stepping on the mat with guys who have fought UFC against guys such as Tank Abott, GSP, Frank Shamrock, Clay Guida and others. These guys are a whole new age of Warriors!!! Yeah I am positive UFC fighters are doing steroids. Look at GSP in his fight on 12-29-07 his legs were huge. Its just a matter of who gets caught and who doesn't. Truth is they need to be here on EF so they can get the knowledge it takes to get te most of each cycle and not get caught. The rules come from the athletic fight commisioner not the UFC not Dana White or any other. The figh comissioner has a responcabilty to make fights fair and protect the athletes who fight in the UFC and other venues.. Just my 2 cents

and bobby lashley tested negative? u ever see the size of him he used to be in the wwe..shamrock needs alot more juice then that to stand a chance lol

You guys who miss the old bloodsport days of the UFC should look into Rioheroes: Tournament format, no gloves, few rules. The fighters are far more versatile than the old UFC guys though.

Pride was alot better than UFC, but couldn't compete $$$wise and marketing done by UFC. As a result, Pride folded up. But the fights in pride were awesome compared to UFC.

Dude, your avatar is fuckin awesome, lol!!

Tank Abbott is horrible. Look at his record he wouldn't last for two seconds with todays heavyweights.

That is more correct then making it some round for round bull crap..
The rounds don't help people like Tank Abbott. He is a one trick fighter. The only skill he has is that he is big, strong, and can punch pretty hard. The problem is if he doesn't knock his opponent out in the first minute he gasses and loses. Look at all his recent losses, he has lost almost all of his fights in the first round.

HA!!!!!!!!! I would laugh my ass off if some geek tried to call a time out in a real fight. Or started dinging some gay little bell. That is not a real fight. Real fights do not have rules and they do not have bells.

Fighting in an cage with gloves and special flooring is not a real fight either.

Tank has 14 losses. All of those occurred without the help of rounds or bells. Not a single fight that Tank has been in has made it out of the first.

Real UFC???? This isn't Roman Gladiators. The objective has always been to render your opponent unconscious or submit him. If you can accomplish either of these objectives the fight is over. There is simply no need to do any further damage. All the ref does is ensure that when this happens the fight is ended. Do you want to allow people to rip apart joints, brutally beat unconscious, or choke opponents to the point of brain damage?

Pride was alot better than UFC, but couldn't compete $$$wise and marketing done by UFC. As a result, Pride folded up. But the fights in pride were awesome compared to UFC.

Yeah, Pride was far better than the UFC. I don't think they should take out all the rules, thats not what I'm saying at all.
What I'm saying is the more rules they add while trying to be more "main stream" is degrading the sport. Look at the first two or three UFCs then look at a modern UFC fight. The guys are all better fighters and in better shape, but they are better fighters within the confines of the rules. I train MMA but more for a real fight not to step inside the cage. When it goes to the ground and I have your back, sure I will go for the choke but not before 3-4 elbows to the base of the neck and back of the head. I see guys I train with all the time passing up move like this because in their mind its Illegal. Its what ever you train for. Do you want to compete in a sport? Or do you want to be able to servive on the street?
At this rate, in another 5-10 years I can see UFC being no more than glorified boxing with take downs.

What rules specifically do you feel should be repealed. Knees to a downed opponenet? Soccer kicks? Knees to the head from side mount? While eye-gouging, groin shots, biting and hair pulling are all techniques that can be applied I don't think it will greatly affect a fighters dominance.

Not only are elbows to the back of the head illegal in mma, they are completely unnecessary in 99% of street fights. If you have your opponents back why would to want to risk causing permanent damage to him? Choke him out and the fight is over. No one wants to end up in criminal court with a manslaughter charge or end up having to pay medical bills for a man suffering from permanent paralysis.

Do you want to compete in a sport? Or do you want to be able to servive on the street?

99 times out of 100 a UFC fighter will beat someone who trains to "survive on the streets" in a no rules fight

I agree most of those guys are on steroids, and if you know your going to get tested before a fight why aren't you on short life esters????

They should make all drugs legal, because the fact of the matter is if you want to take something your going to, its readily available and the war on drugs has failed. Its time to tax it and save the economy!

I think some one should invent a fight with baseball bats, chines, brass knuckles and shit like that. uwfc ya know.

They did...it's called divorce :)

Pride was alot better than UFC, but couldn't compete $$$wise and marketing done by UFC. As a result, Pride folded up. But the fights in pride were awesome compared to UFC.

Pride was in Japan and whan they tride to come to the USA Dana and the Fertittas saw them as a threat to the UFC and as a result purchased them for a little less than 70 million. Initially they made statement to build the sport out world wide and to basicly keep pride but I know them better than that and they just dismanteled the compition and are now the only MMA venue of its size. Truth is the only one coming up that can be considered compition is San Jose based Strikeforce. They just signed a new contract with Showtime and CBS and with their President Scott Coker running it it will be something to watch...

Cage fighting is extremely dangerous to a person's health. The possible negative effects of AAS use is minimal in comparison.

What rules specifically do you feel should be repealed. Knees to a downed opponenet? Soccer kicks? Knees to the head from side mount?

Yes, all of the above. Makes for much better, and most times shorter fights. Also any fighter should know how to defend these things. Bring back head buts also.

Not only are elbows to the back of the head illegal in mma, they are completely unnecessary in 99% of street fights.

Not so. They tend to "soften" them up enough to get the choke.

99 times out of 100 a UFC fighter will beat someone who trains to "survive on the streets" in a no rules fight

Really? Where do these stats come from? So, who do you think will win all else being equal in the street? The straight up play by the rules guy or the bite your nose and ears off, knee you in the nuts anything goes guy? Skill levels being the same.

A+ to that .....

IT just suprise me that a professional athlete dont know the proper protocol to pass 'clean'
they often run the wrong compounds and at the wrong times.

About fifteen or more years ago they had underground fights on HBO. These were fights. I remember one guys name was "Bad Karma" He was a real figher. He said that he met a Shaolin Monk when he was small and the guy taught him how to fight. And watching him fight I beleived him.

Does anyone remember when he was in WWE? He was jacked. 245 and cut. He said he was benching 500 and dead lifting and squating over 600. Then when he came back to the UFC he had dropped down to 205 and looked like shit. All in less than a year.

I've known for a long time that Shamrock was on roids. Ever since his very first performance in UFC 1 it was clearly obvious he was. When you've been in this game long enough you can easily spot a roid user. Some other very obvious roid users in MMA were Mark Coleman, Keven Randleman, Frank Shamrock, Vitor Belfort, and Mark Kerr. These are and were some of my favorite fighters btw.

perryscon, most of those guys im pretty sure have tested positive at some point in time. i also read on a t-nation post once by trainer x(i guess he didnt want his name out and about) that 90% of these athletes are using gear, and more power to them. Im 21 years old on gear and i still find it physically exhausting to train at teh gym 3 or 4 times a week and get a few hours of mma training in a week, these guys in my mind need it to survive in the sport, and make it more exciting for the fans.

Yeah bro, its a shame that so much of the general public thinks all we do is take a pill and we look like "that". I don't care wtf you take, you won't look good unless you work your fucking ass off to get there.

The general public is so ignorant and so quick to buy into the media bullshit. These are the same people that buy the latest protein powder and NO booster and think they are going to look like the pro bodybuilder on the label. They also have a bow flex in their bed room because they can look just like the guy on TV with only 20 mins a day on it.

hahahahahahha so true tho. i hear people make ignornent ass comments about AAS all teh time, i got tired of correcting people

Ken was excellent under pancrase rules.

Ken was excellent under pancrase rules.

He was great in NHB rules, too.

i think if you take shamrock's striking skills that he learned post wwf and combine them with his grappling skills that he had in his prime (along with his sick strength, quickness, and agility) he would be the best heavyweight ever. just my opinion.

Ken was the first UFC fighter to have the total package. He could strike, he could grapple, and he had the look of a Hollywood fighter. Him and Royce are the two guys that got me interested in real martial arts and MMA. I got the chance to train with Royce in 2001 and received my blue belt from him. I have yet to meet Ken but I hope to one day.

Wow, that's insane, you got your blue belt from Royce?

Does Royce give tests, or does he give out belts based on time put into training? I noticed some professors give tests while others promote based on time in the gym.

Ken def had some skills...and steroids doesn't make you have those quick reflexes and that instinct that you have to have as a fighter.

He actually does both, or he did at the time. I got to train with him when ever he was in the Memphis area. At the end of the day he would have us roll with people of our own rank and then the people that did the best would get to roll with people of higher rank. If you could come in as a white belt and tap a higher rank and you had enough hours in, he would promote you.

When I got my blue belt I taped 2 other white belts and a blue.

That's it? Geez, I wish my professor was like that. I generally smash everybody I roll with (perhaps it's because of my size advantage) and I'm still only a second degree white belt. I even tapped my professor one night with a leglock.

Oh well. I guess I'll have to wait.

Yeah, they want to see you use as little muscle as possible. If you beat a guy bigger than you with something really slick like a triangle from the bottom, or a sweet choke you will more likely get a bump up. A lot of instructors are like that. With Royce if you could beat someone who out ranked you with legit Jiu-jitsu he seen you as being under ranked. With a former instructor of mine I was taping all of his blue belts with ease and he refused to even let me try for a stripe.

He has always been juicing throughout his career... Many MMA fighters do, even the ones that aren't that big...

I know a guy that fights for Top Team Brazil, in UFC, who has a fight very soon in one of the lower weight classes, that got an infected butt from a cooked needle while training in Brazil and juicing and had to go to the hospital.

No. Fighters like Tank cannot make it today for many reasons. Conditioning is just one of them. Tank was a brawler pure and simple. Any time you have a 280lb guy throwing haymakers, he can knock someone out.

I agree that there should be rounds to make the fight more interesting. But some of the other rules I think have cheapened the world of MMA down a lot.
