It would take about a year and we'd be back to where we were, maybe around Christmas time. It's not a long-term solution.

Agreed, so after altering the current values, the algorithm would have to be changed for it to have a lasting effect.

you would create a permenent "rich" and "poor" class by lowering the value of karma. It would make it near impossible for anyone to reach the levels of karma that FG, Sponge, Soklu, Hammy, etc have - because they acheived their "rich" status on the old system. With a new system in place of awarding 1 point per hit, it would take years for a new member to reach that level without buying karma.

Or is that the point? You wish to make more money, so you devalue awareded karma so that people will be forced to purchase karma from you.

i'm sorry to have contributed to this need of inflation.. i should stop giving out huge karma hits to everyone...i should have known better when i had given away 4, but damn... i couldnt help myself and i gave away a fifth one, i admit it.

With the one-point-per-hit system (posts 101 and 108) the value of Karma is actually increased. Some people would be left with huge Karma holdings but Karma is merely the currency to allow you to do things on EF such as betting and the store and maybe an EF lottery.

Eventually, those holdings would become eroded though expenditure by control of the Hits-to-Karma conversion factor which would be monitoring the total Karma in the system. Karma would inexorably leak from the system except for purchases until the sum of all Karma was low enough to encourage more favourable conversion rates.

It would change the way that people do their hits and it would control inflation. Karma could still be purchased and for a while might be the main source of Karma influx.

We are told on a daily basis that we should only award personal karma to others that write a good post, present a good idea, etc on the forums. Karma "whoring" is frowned upon. I have no problem with this, but I believe that a lot of the new karma millionaires are from the bookie forum and lotteries. Both these venues are just a short cut to increasing your karmic power more quickly (like "whoring", but on a much larger scale), and they are a large part of the reason we're facing karmic inflation.

I find it odd that we are told to only give personal karma to the deserving, while at the same time being told that we can bet all of it on a sporting event.

I think the problem of karma inflation is the creation of new karmas and that is from karma hitting.
The bookie forum does not create new karma, it simply shifts it around. There is a winner and a loser with the exceptions of 'bookies gone bad' like 75th who couldnt cover his bookie bet, the bookie forum has nothing to do with new karma and is not very busy anyhow.

THe karma inflation comes from the heavy hitters that can create 60,000 to 90,000 karma points if they max out their daily limit.

Four months time for ten heavy hitters alone can put into the system nearly a hundred million karma points. This rate of growth is unsustainable.

you're right.

I really don't think there's any fair way to adjust the system. There will be complaints from members who feel they've been shorted, no matter what. I think Blut Wump + Redguru probably have the best solution. There is no perfect solution to this.

1. It's just a game.

B. Some people play games to win.

III. Karma Bookie has played a significant role in inflation.

d. Mess with the formula or the totals too much and you'll have a revolt on your hands.

5. Once George put a dollar value on karma, your hands were tied. You can't take away, or devalue, something that you have sold to your customers.

strongly agree with all the above^^^^^^^
