you cant just take 40 mg of accutane..the dosage is directly proportional to your bodyweight

I suppose thats why 40mg capsules are the most commonly prescribed form of accutane out there...

Usually doctors recommend working up to around 1mg per kg of bodyweight. This doesn't mean that 40mg won't do anything though. Accutane comes in 20mg and 40mg form (10mg in countries outside North America as well). Usually you work your way up, though in many cases where the acne is not very severe, 40mg will do the job just fine.

my doses went up

40mg for a month
80mg for 5 months

From what I've heard, doctors start low (20mg for a week), and then add 20 after a few weeks, and so on, slowly working up to the maximum dose.

Though quite frankly, I see nothing wrong with starting at 40mg and moving directly to 80mg.

i started at 40mg day for the last month. got blood work last week and going back to see my derm tomorrow. you have to get a new script every month, they are very strict about prescribing that stuff.. i dont know if he will up my dose or not.

Ya my doc said it's to lessen sides. If you don't mind the sides or potential dangers, start high.

My doc immediately prescribed 80mg, saying that at my weight I needed that much (only weight about 225). Today was my first day on it ... and yes, you have to get bloodwork every month, otherwise your derm won't renew your perscription

Damn, sometimes I wish my acne got bad enough to warrant accutane lol, I KNOW it would do a great job on me. Mine gets annoying sometimes but really it's never that bad, just to me it looks bad. I'll just take minocycline and that'll clear it up in a few weeks.
