Isotretinoin (accutane)

I suppose thats why 40mg capsules are the most commonly prescribed form of accutane out there...

my doc started me at 80 mg and worked me up to 100mg

2 prescrips of 40 mg and 20 mg pills

in europe they run accutane longer but at lower doses.. same net total of accutane like 8 months @ 40 mg instead 5 months @ 6o mg in the usa.

i feel accutane peeps should start at a lower dose and work up to make sure the dreaded intial break out isnt as bad..

go 40 mg for the first 2 months
then go 60 for month 3
then 80-120 mg for last 3 months

My doc immediately prescribed 80mg, saying that at my weight I needed that much (only weight about 225). Today was my first day on it ... and yes, you have to get bloodwork every month, otherwise your derm won't renew your perscription

Ya I heard they have to do it every month now.......lame.

they dont have to do it EVERY month, but after the first month for sure.. if there is not change, they prob wont make you do it every month. but you DO have to make an appt to see your derm every month so he can look at you or he wont keep prescribing it. you can only get a month's worth at a time.

Damn, sometimes I wish my acne got bad enough to warrant accutane lol, I KNOW it would do a great job on me. Mine gets annoying sometimes but really it's never that bad, just to me it looks bad. I'll just take minocycline and that'll clear it up in a few weeks.

minocycline do nothing on me, but remember you cannot take Accutane and antibiotics at the same time , my doc say that every time i saw him

Minocycline worked for me last time, it'll probably work again. My acne really isn't bad enough to warrant accutane, at least not at the price yet. And I wouldn't take anything else concurrently with it, no worries bro :)

Way back when I did it the first time, I didn't have insurance and my doc called up roche, and they gave me like 6 months worth free. He did one blood test after a month and I never saw him again - he handed me all the pills and sent me on my way. Now you have to be billed each month for a new script, and you have to see the doc every month. I wasn't sure about the blood tests every month now; I had just heard that somewhere.

that's strange, my derm told me i needed to go every month. maybe it's b/c my liver values were borderline

I've heard that too from a friend who was recently on it. I think some docs probably do do it every month now.
