Is Vista worth upgrading to or wait for Windows 7

I've heard a lot of people say Vista is much better now. If I get obviously I'd want the 64 bit OS but what about compatibility (software/peripheral driver support)? Also is the OS any more efficient or is it still a memory hog even if its tuned?

I'm upgrading my processor from a 2.4 ghz core 2 duo to a 2.66 ghz quad, and have 4 gigs ddr2 800. Will I notice any performance improvements going from 32 bit XP to 64 bit Vista?

Thanks for any info on this.

From, a Vista Skeptic.

As long as you have 4 gigs of ram you will have a great experience with Vista, the biggest problem with people hating Vista is because they have old computers that have not enough ram ....

You should do just fine with those stats. ...

I think Vista is fine, if your going to be upgrading your hardware you my as well upgrade to Vista.
Windows 7 sounds like it will be far superior, but it's Microsoft, so who knows when it will actually be released.

Yeah, my problem with Vista crashing is memory. It's ridiculous how they sell new laptops with Vista but not enough memory for stupid graphics crap that adds absolutely nothing unless you're a graphics programmer.

I blame video games for this. I just wanna /dir.

I'm running windows 7 on my desktop but its quad core with 8gb of ddr2-1000 memory.

I put windows 7 32 bit on my single core laptop with 2gb of memory and it still flys! Windows 7 as a prebeta is just as fast as XP in my experience. Everything is really fast.

I recommend waiting until windows 7 personally. I never liked vista.

Nice. Yea, I hear this is the first Windows beta that has been working so well it's almost good enough to be final.

oh so you are a sql or oracle programmer are u??

why do you need 64 bit processing??

linux or get an oem... never upgrade..

Over the next year 32 bit will slowly become replaced by 64 bit apps. I'd be doing a fresh install anyway, likely with a new HDD.

lol funny you mention Oracle. A coworker of my dad's has a son who co-wrote some data compiling software and Oracle bought it for about $6 million. Oh and he's got a degree in political science lol.

support for 32 bit apps will still be good for the next 5 years.

too many legacy devices for MS to kill the 32 bit os completely.

Why dont you download the windows 7 beta and see how you like it before you commit?

Those two words should never be in the same post lol. A more accurate blame would be the general public who prefer flashy things over functionality, and MS for actually giving it to them. Capitalism is all just trial and error really.
