I just hate the ass kissing , brown nosing people in every level of life..They can be more problematic to everyone down the road. By running a family business Ive seen a lot of ass kissing from employees.. employees bringing us lunch & cookies to offering sexual favors.. But when it comes to pay and status level with in the company, performance and attitude has always played the role. We always do the right thing.. It's unfortunate that some business owners and/or upper management don't see it or just plain like the attention.. oh! one more thing, YOUR AVATAR ROCKES :p
 
Brown nosers/fakes are only as powerful as the people that are energized from the brown nosing.
If a manager feels small, he needs the adoration of the fakes.
Any manager worth his weight in salt will not even give a moment to a brown noser/fake
 
Superqt...it sucks, but that's the way it goes in most businesses. People develop friendships on golf courses, ect...and it's only natural to want to promote a friend over an associate.

Maybe you should get in on that basketball game. Even if you can't hit a bucket to save your life, the sight of you rebounding and taking jumpers would win you some points for sure! :p
 
One of the nicest comments on an assessment I had was;

There is so much more I mean my manager was like analyze why you were beat out so I did. The last time I was beat out for the role I was not nearly as upset as I could see reasoning on why the other manager was picked. Now I just don’t see why not only upset for myself but the other applicants we used to get full on documented feedback with this is your score here etc etc see where you can improve this was before I started applying for management as my manager should me his first score card he got turned down twice before he got it. I am just extremely frustrated and it is very de motivating for me in general. I really want to bring back my love for this job and the company but it just seem to get progressively harder.

QT - sounds to me like perhaps it is time for you to see what else is out there. Once an employee is unhappy they generally tend to become less productive and a negative roundee round is begun (as you have already atested to). No need to get down about what is going on around you. Just take it as a sign that perhaps you have outgrown the company? Put some feelers out. I am thinking that you would probably be pleasantly surprized at how valuable you are in the work world so why not take a look around?

As for ass-kissing; any manager who can't see what is what is a dope pure and simple and goodness knows I've experienced my fair share of this situation. Who hasn't?

I never ever socialized with those that I managed as I never knew when I would have to fire them. If I developed a personal relationship w/them then this would make me less effective management. I mase no bones about letting my entire staff know that I was not there to make friends. I was there to make money. I could care less if they loved me or hated me, bottom line was I was there to help them excell. If they were incapable or unwilling to let me help them then they shouldn't let the door hit them in the ass on the way out. :) ...worked out exceptionally well for EVERYONE in my department.
