Several Years ago the Feds raided Elite, sopeana was issues to George to turn over members Idenities and other information,plus all the info in the servers however thanks to the paying members George refused and turned the matter over to Rick Collins.
As you can see we are still running.

oh well...I suppose I might as well confess that I have an 18 year old illegeal Russian bride I purchased over the internet and she is locked up in my basement. When the feds come and track me down via my IP address they can take turns tagging her with me. Then again she has been playing with my androl patches and she is starting to grow hair in places...well....(time to order a new bride!)

On a serious note, this is a good thread. Tons of good info on proxies and encryption. I suggest always using stuff like that just to be safe. Most importantly - NEVER order anything that is a no-no on your personal computer at home. Hit a wireles network in a cybercafe and surf away...

I also think it is good to emphasize that GS has gone to court and stuck up for our rights. Not many other sites out there do that. Support EF!

I feel George does everything he can to protect or privacy, and because we may 'not be told how' just may be another indication of what precautions he/ef staff take. Discussions on ef are very censored compared to many other boards, which some may see as a detrimental aspect of ef, but I believe that is why ef is still around. Open source posting, trading, and other AS specifics are not allowed to protect us. Simply, keep your details to your self, get a proxy if you want, but if you stir up enough shit, a warrant can get issued to your proxy server's parent company.
Also, as for the MAC talk, the proxy(if you are using one) would have your MAC addy, not ef(they would have the proxy server's MAC, I believe), so just don't get the authorities to serve a warrant to your proxy.

Well, I wasn't expecting so much controversy when creating this thread. I am trying to help all of the active users which make this forum interesting to begin with. Fact is, we deserve to know if the authorities can tell which IP Addresses made which posts. Even if the cops did have access to the server, the database is a whole seperate privacy issue. And the cops would have to have access to the database in order to make a correlation between IP Addresses and Specific Forum Posts.

Well I do have some helpful instructions on hiding your IP Address: (NOTE: This only works if you are using Internet Explorer with a cable modem connection- Sorry, maybe I will create a dial-up version soon)

Setting Up Anonymous Proxy Server using Internet Explorer:
1. Goto the website http://samair.ru/proxy/. This is a list of proxy servers. Find one in the list that is anonymous. Copy the IP Address and Port number to notepad (Example 192.168.1.1:8080- The 192.168.1.1 number is the IP Address and the 8080 number is the port number).
2. In Internet Explorer go to Tools at the top.
3. Hit Internet Options at the bottom of the Tools Menu.
4. Click the Connections Tab at the top of the Internet Options Menu.
5. Click the LAN Settings Button at the bottom of the Connections Tab Menu.
6. At the bottom of the menu there is a 'Proxy Server' Section. Check off the option that says 'Use a proxy server for your LAN'.
7. In the text box labeled 'Address:', use the IP Address that you copied from the proxy server website list earlier.
8. In the text box labeled 'Port:', use the port number that you copied earlier.
9. Also check the checkbox which says 'Bypass proxy server for local addresses'.
10. Now Click 'OK' to all menus to close out and enable your proxy connection.

That is all there is to it. NOTE: You may have to do this multiple times with different addresses from the proxy server list because some proxy servers are busy, some are slow, and some just don't work at all.

I don't know about all you guys but I've tried all kinds of proxys configurations, concealing IP software and both partially worked....However this is a hassle..connection speed gets way too slow, your share the broadband with the anonymous proxy server and sometimes the internet connection stops/crashes. Sometimes After running some IP tests after browsing under a proxy, the real IP was still showing due to some flaw with the java script, this flaw doesn't seem to go away even when i tried out a different web browser or adjusted java seetings....
Bottom line. There is no way to be 100% secure/private while on the internet, FBI DEA or whoever will always find your internet traces back to your door if they want, you can make their life harder by concealing your IP add. but still doesnt mean you won't get busted.
I'll just keep going to the library or a cafe internet where the IP adress can't be linked to my personal Info such as name and address. Yes it's a hassle but at least I know i'm safer. This way being anonynous relies on myself rather than on the Elite Fitness' admnistrators even if they are fighting for my privacy rights. No bogus proxys, no slow connections...only the fact that i have to drive a couple of miles to get to a public internet service.
So guys, the best thing you can do is to watch your backs by yourselves, and don't assume that someone elese is going to do so for you.
