This is a legitamite (sp) concern, but I think the question got answered. Feds will have to lock horns with management and have a damn good reason (warrant, etc) to get your ip. You'd have to be doing something seriously fucked to have things get to that point, so to about 99.999999999999999231% of the people here, ip address stuff isn't an issue.

Second - He also didn't deserve to get bombed for that. I was bombed when I first joined for saying I thought something was legit but too expensive. This bombing shit on the whole is fucking rediculous. If you really feel the need to "bomb" people when you don't agree with them on the internet, turn off your fucking computer and buy a playstation.

People should green this guy until he does something that deserves all that red.

Setting Up Anonymous Proxy Server using Internet Explorer:
1. Goto the website http://samair.ru/proxy/. This is a list of proxy servers. Find one in the list that is anonymous. Copy the IP Address and Port number to notepad (Example 192.168.1.1:8080- The 192.168.1.1 number is the IP Address and the 8080 number is the port number).
2. In Internet Explorer go to Tools at the top.
3. Hit Internet Options at the bottom of the Tools Menu.
4. Click the Connections Tab at the top of the Internet Options Menu.
5. Click the LAN Settings Button at the bottom of the Connections Tab Menu.
6. At the bottom of the menu there is a 'Proxy Server' Section. Check off the option that says 'Use a proxy server for your LAN'.
7. In the text box labeled 'Address:', use the IP Address that you copied from the proxy server website list earlier.
8. In the text box labeled 'Port:', use the port number that you copied earlier.
9. Also check the checkbox which says 'Bypass proxy server for local addresses'.
10. Now Click 'OK' to all menus to close out and enable your proxy connection.

OK, Lets quit fooling ourselves. I have been arrested for having an eighth of weed so I am sure that these feds would be more than happy to arrest someone for a vial or two of gear. I will give you another reason why it is important that the feds not have the IP Addresses of the members. I happen to know that the authorities are using email packet sniffers. It doesn't matter if you are using encrypted email because the authorities still know the source and the destination email addresses. What this means is that if you have ever emailed a gear source, the authorities know it. If you are using an @elitefitness.com email address and your username matches the email address ([email protected]) then you are in deep shit if the feds get access to your IP Address. In case you did not understand exactly what I am talking about, I have outlined it below.
1. You email your source from your elitefitness email.
2. The authorities use email sniffer to get the source and destination email addresses.
3. They see your Elite Email Address send an email to a source's email address.
4. The feds go to EliteFitness.com and get your IP Address for that particular username.
5. The feds have your IP Address and all of your other information.

I am not trying to scare people but I think that knowledge will help keep what we have together and keep us one step ahead of the authorities.

My best advice to all of the gear heros would be to use a different address to receive your gear from the one where you are doing all of your elitefitness web surfing. Also use a fake name to receive it under.

Bro, this is not realistic. For Feds to sniff anything they still need a warrant. You can't just start up a sniffer and read someone's email. The feds would have to have the cooperation (read: warrant) of the network housing the servers, access to the switch the server was plugged into, or the server itself. Then they've got to worry about the encryption.

None of that is a simple (or inexpensive) process. I agree that privacy is important, but so is being realistic.

Well, I wasn't expecting so much controversy when creating this thread. I am trying to help all of the active users which make this forum interesting to begin with. Fact is, we deserve to know if the authorities can tell which IP Addresses made which posts. Even if the cops did have access to the server, the database is a whole seperate privacy issue. And the cops would have to have access to the database in order to make a correlation between IP Addresses and Specific Forum Posts.

Well I do have some helpful instructions on hiding your IP Address: (NOTE: This only works if you are using Internet Explorer with a cable modem connection- Sorry, maybe I will create a dial-up version soon)

That is all there is to it. NOTE: You may have to do this multiple times with different addresses from the proxy server list because some proxy servers are busy, some are slow, and some just don't work at all.

Proxy and VPN will not help, it's still logged and just comes down to network address translation. There are some sites out there that sell software and services to make your IP is anonymous but at the end of the day, this company still has the translations, they must be cached in the machine doing the work in order for you to communicate with the site..... Someone mentioned war driving, this is the best way to go, cause you are ACTUALLY using an ip address that does not belong to you.

With the boom of wireless networking exploding all over the place, I keep several radios on hand, each configured with parameters of "other" wireless networks in my area. Most people not yet educated on wireless security use the default parameters on their wireless networks, so no guesswork even needed in this case. Makes it real easy to plug the radio into a USB port, obtain an IP address from their home network which is associated with thier ISP service.........login do your biz, jump off, login to your ISP, now your surfing was done physically on another network all together and it cannot be traced back to you. Your neighbor ever gets questioned, just step on the radio you used for that house and the MAC address is gone......Not that I would ever do this, but it works, otherwise just drive down to starbucks and login
