IP Addresses To Username To Specific Forum Posts...

You can change your IP, by getting another computer. It is pointless to change it! Every computer has their own personal IP
This is absolutely false.
A computer is just a machine...the IP comes from the use of software...and unless you have a permanent "always on" connection then your IP will change on a regular basis...I still use Dial up, and my IP addy is different just about everytime that I log on to my server.

Ok here is a brief tutorial on if you are using a static or dynamic ip.

Static IP - always have the same ip no matter what. Even after you reboot, disconnect/reconnect it will stay the same.

Dynamic IP - always chaging. i.e- Dial-up users get a new ip everytime they disconnect/reconnect to the net.

Easiest way for beginners to see if they have static or dynamic ip is to goto Start/run. Type "cmd" hit enter and this brings a black screen.
In here type "ipconfig" hit enter.
Now you will see a domain or network if you are on one as well as your ip address, subnet mask and your default gateway. i am not getting into any gateways, dns 's etc cause i don't want to write a book.
Take note of your ip address.
Now disconnect from the internet and restart your computer and repeat.
If you ip is the same you most likely have a static ip. If its different you have a dynamic ip.
But be warned even the dynamic ip can be easily traced to a couple km's or miles from your home.

You are wrong. Changing an IP address doesnt protect you from being traced by those that have the resources to do so. Your network card has a unique id(Mac Address) that your ISP has tied to each ip address with their service. You need different service, new card, or new computer.
Of course its always going to be differnet with dial up, slow as hell too. And you can still be traced.

Finally, someone did the sensible thing by opening this thread again.
In current environment, this is a legitimate issue. We should require the management to declare their privacy policy more clearly.
I don't know why more people are not concerned.
I hate the kiss-assers who bombed the poster.

:bawling:

Well, I wasn't expecting so much controversy when creating this thread. I am trying to help all of the active users which make this forum interesting to begin with. Fact is, we deserve to know if the authorities can tell which IP Addresses made which posts. Even if the cops did have access to the server, the database is a whole seperate privacy issue. And the cops would have to have access to the database in order to make a correlation between IP Addresses and Specific Forum Posts.

Well I do have some helpful instructions on hiding your IP Address: (NOTE: This only works if you are using Internet Explorer with a cable modem connection- Sorry, maybe I will create a dial-up version soon)

Setting Up Anonymous Proxy Server using Internet Explorer:
1. Goto the website http://samair.ru/proxy/. This is a list of proxy servers. Find one in the list that is anonymous. Copy the IP Address and Port number to notepad (Example 192.168.1.1:8080- The 192.168.1.1 number is the IP Address and the 8080 number is the port number).
2. In Internet Explorer go to Tools at the top.
3. Hit Internet Options at the bottom of the Tools Menu.
4. Click the Connections Tab at the top of the Internet Options Menu.
5. Click the LAN Settings Button at the bottom of the Connections Tab Menu.
6. At the bottom of the menu there is a 'Proxy Server' Section. Check off the option that says 'Use a proxy server for your LAN'.
7. In the text box labeled 'Address:', use the IP Address that you copied from the proxy server website list earlier.
8. In the text box labeled 'Port:', use the port number that you copied earlier.
9. Also check the checkbox which says 'Bypass proxy server for local addresses'.
10. Now Click 'OK' to all menus to close out and enable your proxy connection.

That is all there is to it. NOTE: You may have to do this multiple times with different addresses from the proxy server list because some proxy servers are busy, some are slow, and some just don't work at all.

By the way DetroitBodyBuilder, Is this the Bomb or what!

Your ISP knows the exact IP address that is assigned to you, when you log on, whether dynamic or static. The only way to stay anonymous is to use a proxy server, but be prepared to slow things way down.

Yo DBBT you're just making yourself look stupid as hell. Everyone has given legitimate reasons why this is a good thread. You just try to talk tough on the thread. Why did you bomb him, or am I just being a bitch; seriously the other kids will still think you're cool. Save the tough talk for elsewhere this forum is for intellegable discussion over issues surounding AAS. And security is one of them. Radar, I'm curious why you bombed him as well. I find it is totally uncalled for unless you can enlighten us to the contrary. I think once this thread gets good security info (protection, and detailed site policy) on it it should be made a sticky.
