Mom Charged After Pit Bull Chews off Infant's Sex Organs


RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- A 22 year old mother was charged with felony child endangerment Tuesday after her 6-month-old son's testicles were chewed off by a friend's pit bull mix in Riverside County.

Carrie Rae McKinney, who lives in San Diego County, left her son unattended on April 3rd in a baby carrier near a pit-bull mix at her friend's home, according to police in Murrieta.

The baby had been alone for several minutes when McKinney, who was in another room, heard his screams and returned to find the child's groin area was injured and his diaper had been torn off, according to Deputy District Attorney Gerald Fineman. The baby's testicles were severed in the attack, Fineman said.

Animal control seized the dog, as well as another dog that may or may not have been involved in the attack. Both dogs were euthanized.

Prosecutors say the attack was foreseeable because the dog had previously shown an interest in the baby's diaper.

They say leaving the child alone warrants a felony charge. 'Leaving the child alone in such a dangerous situation, that exposed," Fineman said warrants the felony child endangerment charge.

I haven't been around too many pits....but the one next door is a darling, one of my favorite dogs I've ever been around. She's a female though, maybe that makes a difference.

So was this dog eating the diaper and just happened to chew off the kids, man I don't even want to repeat it...

or did it intentionally go after it?

it was comic-relief in the face of a horrible situation...it's called "dark" or "black" comedy...it's how i deal with bad things...i make jokes at funerals, all the time, you could ask any of my family/friends.

i don't really know enough about most social issues to make a legitimate comment on them...and, very few people have a softer spot in their heart for kids than me...my wife and i had to sacrifice a lot to have ours and there were a lot of highs and lows during the process and that stuff makes you realize how precious they really are.

at any rate, sorry if i offended you.

The behavior problem with American Pitbull Terriers is far more than an issue with poor training, though certainly that is part of it. Primarily its a history of several generations of animal husbandry in the US with the specific intent to breed a more vicious dog. All Bull Terrier breeds do have aggressive tendencies and for several decades now unethical breeds over here have selectively bred them to be extremely vicious.

It's definitely true that you see the vicious line of APT's amongst the poor since those are the ones who've bred them to fight and to be the poor man's security system.

what you are saying is true...pitbulls were originally bred for fighting, with other dogs...that said, when the breed was in its infancy, those animals that showed aggression toward humans and other animals (e.g., livestock) were killed...they were bred to fight with other dogs...period. today's breed has been bastardized quite a bit from it's origin.

oh and, "poor men" can't afford dog food and have little need for security as they have nothing to steal.
