I take back every good thing I've ever said about a Mac

I'm a fairly recent Mac convert (1ish years). Used them recently for amateur video and audio stuff and been very impressed. I also used Microsoft Office to do business letters, spreadsheets and presentations on Macs too, but mostly bullet point stuff with low complexity.

So I've been working on a complex PowerPoint presentation using MS Office and a Mac. Over the past two days, it's crashed, dumping all progress since the last hard save a total of seven (yes SEVEN) times. Its a complete and total piece of unstable shit. Back in my GE days, I could hammer a PC with graphics and spreadsheets, blow shit apart and tweak things all day without a crash.

Bottom Line: Fuck Mac's when it comes to real business presentations. I'd never used one again -- ever.

There's probably your problem. MS and Apple hate each other and that sentiment extends into their software compatibility.

Bottom line though is you better hope a Mac keeps running well because you'll be paying out the yin yang the second something goes wrong. Zero customization with those things. MS doesn't hold a candle to Apple's selfishness.

I left my last job over a Mac, they would not switch to Office and the mail programs on macs blow anus. Plus I was doing actionscript at the time and Flash would crash nonstop. I pushed my $6,000 Mac to the side an used my 4 year old laptop and begged them to buy me a PC, no go so I quit.

If something was interferring with my job - I'd bring it up to supervisors. And they can either 1) Get me resources on how to fix it or 2) Adjust my ETA's and expected output accordingly.

Now if it's happening to me, but not other workers - then I would demand IT figure out what's wrong. You get paid for your job skillset, not to be a technician (assuming the problem is pretty advanced).

Unfortunately - if you have a job, where your work really isn't that important to the company - you always run the risk of 'being ignored'. Happened to me too a few times early in my career.

When I quit they had to hire three people to take my place... So the money they spent on three new employees could have been saved had they spent 2 grand and bought me a new PC. Oh well, have a better job, better PC and my work load is 10 times lighter, yippy for me!

Companies like this usually post losses, go out of business, or always playing 'catch-up'. It's their 'culture' that affects their 'product'. You do not want to work for these outlets.

Update: Installed Office 2008 for the Mac and it appears (so far) to be working like a champ. I may be an Apple fan again!

I wish. I installed SP3 earlier this week and there's no change in the RAM situation. Machine has 4G in it, recognizes 3.25.
