Who here does box squats? Wouldn't that help to know exactly when you hit parallel? Not too mention it increases your explosiveness at the bottom of the lift.

Who here uses a large stance, btw? :)

Just curious.

I only squat 180, I"m 15 and only been at it for a few months, however. My goal is 250 by the end of the year :)

I saw some BS flags raised earlier and I wanted to offer my own personal story from when i was younger.

I was in 8th grade (so 13ish years old) before my accident that ruined my physique. I put 300 up 15 times ATF. So I'm not gonna call BS on the 15 yr old. Course I'd be curious how long he'd been lifting.. I know by then I had 3.5 yrs of work in my legs.

Damn what I wouldn't give to look like that again.

Oh now I can do about 500 on an incline leg press but have been nervouse about trying real squats again as A. I'm working alone (no spot) and B. my left knee is shit compared to what it used to be.

Anyone have a good technique to wrap a knee that likes to blow out sideways? I'd like to try to get back into real squats as nothing was as satisfying to me as seeing my legs after a nice set.

lately with my messed up lower back I have had to turn to Smith Machine Squats :bawling: Before I was doing 315+ to paralell with a semi wide stance. btw I'm 6'1" and 202 lbs

as a side note....

what rep tempo do most of you use on said squats?

2/2/0?
4/2/0?
4/2/2?
3/2/1?
1/1/0?

it makes a difference.

anyone using a 4 second negative has some balls of steel. that makes for a loooong intense set, especially if adding the 2 second isometric.

3/2/1 works well for most people going heavy though. nice control going down, a pause and a smooth slow lift up.

Very good point, bignate73. Cadence and rep range(TUL) make a huge difference in what kind of weights one puts up. I just checked out the tail end of this thread, and didn't really bother reading most of it, so I don't know what kind of weights people are saying they use. As for me, I agree with endpoint--at least to a degree. I'm really quite uninterested in what kind of poundages people use. I'm not a powerlifter. This is not the powerlifting forum. My squat is quite pathetic. Do I give a fuck? No. Recently I've dropped my poundages--a hundred and fifty pounds or so in the squat--and focused on form, which many people seem to neglect in the quest for ever heavier weights, and of which I myself have been guilty of late. As for cadence, I don't really like the 4 second eccentric. It doesn't "feel" right. I aim for about 2-3 seconds positive, and negative. Though the last few reps are probably around a 10-15 second concentric.

I just did my best ever weight of 410lbs for 3 reps.

I weigh about 180 right now.

These were done parallel as well, with very good form.

I just did 495 for 7 in my last workout- have been building back up to that over the last two months. These weren't ass to floor, hell I can't do that with NO weight....lol. They were to parallel to the "hole', the point where glutes and hamstrings started to engage. Any deeper and I get too much back bend, even with no weight due to my height- 6'3".

My best ever was 5x5 with 605 at 245 lbs with no support gear, but thatw as before I blew my knee. Last workout, I finished with 3x3 with 545 at 240lbs and no support gear.

Blah blah. you're just saying that because you've got a crappy squat.

Just f*cking with you man. I agree 100%
