How many of you feel that you don't really look as big as your weight suggest

I'm 5'9' 216 and at around 13-14% BF. A little bloated since i'm in the middle of my cycle. But i don't really look like a 216 pound guy. The other day, i was talking to this guy in the gym who was just about as big as me and weighed only 183.

Any explanations from experienced bros.

I am 6'4 240lbs, and I still think I'm skinny...LOL. I feel like a chick who is hot and think she is fat!

I'm not talking about appearance. I'm talking about weight to body measurment propotion. I'm just not as big as my weight.

Im 5'11" 245-150 (fluctuates a lot weekly) and I certianly dont think Im nearly as big as I am. I see people in the gym who I think are much larger than me yet tip the scales at 220 if that. One thing I have learned is that they eve isnt a very good judge of size. For example my firend and I trained together I thought he had a decent looking set of Bi's, seemed to jump out much more than mine and even appeared larger even though he is 2 inches shorter than me. The tale of the tape however shows his arms were 2" smaller than mine.

I am the oppisite. I am about 5'9 180 7% bf but am much bigger than most of my friends who are over 200. It all goes back to having alot of muscle on a small frame for me.

it all depends on the illusion your specific bone structure/height/muscle project. with 6 1/2" wrists and short stature, with above average muscle structure most places.....i can carry "normal" amounts of muscle, and look "bigger" or "more muscular", than a guy who weighs more or has larger measurements. gotta jump on the scale sometimes to prove i weigh what i weigh. i also know this one guy who is fricking huge (and a few inches taller than me)...i just knew he weighed 260....but he was only 230. he is like a supersized version of me. lol. :D i usually get credit for about 10-20lbs more than i weigh.

Being preoccupied with muscle development may involve a disturbance in body image similar to anorexia. Bigorexia (muscular dysmorphia) is now affecting hundreds of thousands of mostly guys like us your avid bodysuilders. For some men muscle development is such a complete preoccupation that they will miss important events, continue training through pain or broken bones, even lose their job rather than interrupt their physical development schedule. Curiously, these same men are not in love with their bodies. Despite a well developed physique they are unlikely to show it off and will shy away from situations that expose their bodies.

The term 'muscle dysmorphia' was coined in 1997 to describe this new form of disorder. Other people refer to the condition as 'reverse anorexia', and now more commonly 'bigorexia'. The causes are not known but two key ideas revolve around bigorexia as a form of obsessive compulsive behavior and secondly, the effect of the media putting the same type of pressure on men (jesus christ next they will want us to have periods) to conform to an ideal shape as has been the case with women for years.

The main characteristic of bigorexia is the thought that no matter how hard you try your body is never muscular enough. The condition is recognized as more common with men although some women body builders have also been reported with similar symptoms. Most men with bigorexia are weight lifters, but this does not mean that most weight lifters are bigorexic. Compared to normal weightlifters who report spending up to 40 minutes a day thinking about body development ( I spend about 3 times that), men with bigorexia report being preoccupied 5 or more hours a day thinking their bodies are under-developed.

With the increase in gymnasium provision and attendance there is some speculation that this alone accounts for increased awareness of physical imperfection in men and a quest to attain the perfect body. Conservative estimates put bigorexia as affecting hundreds of thousands of men. I say live and let live it is a passion for me and it makes me tick I guess. After all if we didn't have goals what good would we be. :)
