I always see people say that- 'back in the day it was different here' or 'ef has changed' or 'it used to be so much better here'.

people come and go. sometimes the good posters leave and new ones come. If there was one period of time when there were a lot of good posters and this place was so much better... ask yourself why they left.

my guess is its the same, but if it used to be so much better with better threads and topics... MAKE BETTER THREADS.

but they won't because even though they don't realize it, its just as fun here now as it used to be 'back in the day' (i hate that expression).

I think that is only a part of it. A lot of it has to do with the "attitudes" that have changed and the inability of the boards to be moderated the way they once were. EF was once very small and much more easily "babysat".

More peeps mean "more better" diversified input but it also means "more difficulty" controlling the masses. LOL

Things change period. If elite were such a terrible place now then those of us who remember how great it once was would have just stopped coming altogether. I am one of the most vocal, admittedly, about what elite was like back in the day. But I also recognize that it could be far worse someplace else. And I have seen enough of the "other boards" to quantify that statement. :)

i forgot that it was probably smaller. thats not always good, but i guess in this case, it could have been.
i like diversity.

You're on crack if you believe that. I haven't laughed at a thread in I couldn't tell you how long. The percentage of threads created just to outdo someone else's outlandishness or stupidity has gone way up.
Biteme has made 500 threads since june 11, and the search thing only returns 500 max. That's 5 threads a day every weekday for 5 months straight. That fugga ain't got shit to say worth typing.

I think that all of elite was comprised of like 5/6 boards. When they came up with the "Between the Sheets" board it was a hyuge deal! LOL

Chat was just that - chat. There was a lot less hostility and downright nastiness back then. It just wasnt tolerated.

The fact that elite became a pay site also had a tremendous influence on what was/was not tolerated. That is one of the reasons why I rarely bitch bigtime. What right do I have to do that? I respect the proper function of the business model. Having been self-employed for most of my life I understand this VERY well.

I guess I am just old and nostalgic :)

i think i liked it better back in the day. it can be hard to say because of the nature of memory, but i remember more interesting characters from 2003 when i first showed up.

and some really intelligent dudes. now there seems to be more crap for crap's sake.
 
i still like it here. . .there are certain things that rub me the wrong way from time-to-time. . .you know what they are. . .but, all-in-all, this place is pretty cool :)

When people post interesting stuff now it seems one of a few thing happen.

It gets heated and turns into personel attacks.

Someone comes on and says something lame ala calling posters "nerds" or saying "I will take your life" or saying "hi" to random people on the thread or my very most hated "lot of good bros up in here."

Now it is a porn site, a gay site, a time-wasting site, a rant site and a weight lifting site

I was just thinking about this and you are correct. There was a sense of COMMUNITY that no longer exists. We were diverse but still united to a certain extent. We had respect for each other and for the most part, could agree to disagree without seriously disrespecting and personally attacking each other for differing points of view. <-----THIS is what the old-schoolers miss most, I think. Well, I do anyway. The flamefests were actually entertaining. The verbage was designed to be funny and entertaining and not simply disagreeing parties lambasting each other with personal attacks designed to degrade and humiliate.

As stated before though, even with "the loss of the innocence of EF C&C" it can still be fun, entertaining, enlightening and positive. One just has to learn to put up their guard a bit higher when dealing with the negative peeps and put some SERIOUS blinders on to their attacks, lest they get sucked in themselves. I have admittedly lain down with more than ONE DOG on EF C&C, but have managed to successfully rid myself of their fleas. :)

For starters:
- The only attention whore was Bikinimom and everybody still liked her anyway
- Girls posted naked pics w/o getting called whores. They were just stalked off the board secretly the way it should be
- Even the people in C&C actually worked out

I think the difference is that no one hardly ever post any "replible" threads now.

It's just random stupid shit all the time from the same posters...nothing discussion worthy anymore.
 
This is the first time I'll agree with the topic of threads being a tad "unworthy". Other than that, I've always said EF will always be changing. I've heard this said so many times since I've been here and lived through it and STILL don't see where older was better. It was just different. People will always be somewhat the same. Just give them some type of parameters to go by and they'll be there being ...people, just like it's always been.

Sure there may have been a couple of people who were "cool", or "funny", or whatever, but that certainly doesn't make EF or any board, for that matter. People tend to remember the good stuff in anything in their lives. I also want to say it was better "back then", but it was just different. So , I don't say it in that way. Go with the flow. Sometimes the cream rises to the top, but it may take a lot of shaking in order to get it there.

I still think when there are good topics, people tend to answer them truthfully and with a lot of thought. They do bring good points to threads that are worth it and we do have compassion for our fellow EF'ers when there is a need for it.


"different" and "better" are two different things. Things will always be different.


I'd also like to take this opportunity to say... I may be getting my moderator position back. I am excited about it, I won't lie and say I'm not. Just giving the heads up in case anyone asks about the position change.

back in 2001 when i joined i loved this place. not to rip on george or anything, but after the whole plat membership thing started, a couple things bothered me: the search function sucked for non plats, and non plats couldnt view galeries.

also there were definately some good members then that no longer are around now. it is for the reasons that those members have left, that we should be concerned. gotta make sure that ppl have reasons to stay, and not reasons to leave.

this place was pretty fun recently too, but i think in the last few months it has taken a bit of a turn towards being less enjoyable.

a few reasons why:

1. hammy left
2. drama-free weekends were instated
3. constant locking of old threads that were bumped, and other threads that were deemed 'too much'.
4. constant posting of useless threads, too many parody threads, etc.
5. not enough females on here. and they need to post more nude pics! (i miss kronkette, lol)
