How do you get a doctor to prescribe a narcotic painkiller for your workouts?

I've had 2 rotator cuff surgeries and my delts still hurt. I can't train anywhere near top intensity on my pec/delt day. Basically I wanted to try taking something like Darvocet, one tablet before the workout and one after. That would require an RX for 10 Darvocets a month. Do you think a doctor would be willing to do it?

killing the pain would be a bad decision IMO. The pain actually tells you what are you doing to your shoulder. If you kill it, you could be destroying your cuffs and you'll not know it til they're FUBAR.

I don't think Darvocet is strong enough to block pain from a severe injury. I suspect my problems are simply inflammation on the tendons and bursa.

Dvset is super weak – don’t bother – it sounds like what you need is an anti-inflammatory. Tell your doctor that you just got into a car accident and you have chronic pain.

Go to your doctor and tell him whats wrong and don't mention anything like you want a narcotic pain med. Just tell him what's your problem and the pain you are experiencing. I think we don't give docs enuff credit. They see patients left and right and diagnose problems all day long. They realize if you are experiencing pain still from a surgery, they'll know what to give you. If he thinks a strong anti-imflammatory is needed then he'll give it to you, and if he thinks a pain med is required. But unless he mentions a pain medication, that would be your cue to say "well, vicodin is to strong, I've always done well with darvocet.." but in all honesty, I believe he's going to prescribe an ai for you. If he doesn't prescribe a strong medication, and you truly are in pain and not an addict looking for a high, you should seek help from the surgeon who perform it on you or a pain specialist. A lot of doctors shy away from giving out opiates willy nilly cuz 2 many people are abusing them talking them into prescribing opiates and the dea is cracking down. that's my .02

Um why not tell your doc what you told us in your post, the truth. Im sure if theres been enough damage to it to cause 2 surgeries that would be reason enough to wanna get something for the pain.

The pain is telling you to stop so you don't cause damage and you want something to block that out and most likely cause more damage, highly doubt the doc is gonna give you a narc so you can fuck your shoulder up more.

i agree. Don't just mask ur symptoms - deal with the problem. Look at stretching exercises (like yoga and such). Work around the injury if u can. go see a physical therapist but dont, DONT try ignoring the problem by eliminating ur bodys signals.
