Hooray for deregulation!

I dont think that has to do with deregulation....some people are just incompetent assholes.

There are a lot of union folks who fit that bill.

There was only one controller on duty at the time, I don't think that situation would have arisen in a union shop.

Oh didnt know that.

I thought that was highly illegal.

Fire him and replace with someone competent.

He was forced to resign, and that airport now requires a minimum of two controllers on duty at all times. The pilots got tired of circling the airport with no contact from the tower and landed themselves with no direction.

The most salient part of this situation is this is the best counterexample to the argument of deregulation that can be produced.

Oh yeah, "the market" has a proven safety track record.

On Bizarro World.

Considering it's the only economic model that has endured, the smart money is on it.

I don't see people trying to sneak into Cuba and north Korea.

sounds like we dont even need air traffic controllers. fire them all and bring back free airline meals!

Bottom line is the airport authority is trying to squeeze every ounce of profit out of labor that they can. In this case the lack of any oversight lead to the controller nodding out. It would be ironic if plans landing @ Reagan would crash due to a lack of proper controller staffing. Sad but ironic.

Bingo!

We don't need a crash to highlight the irony. Direct result of Ronnie's union-busting occurred at his namesake airport. Guess we could consider this the wake up call. :)

That didn't stop Ronnie Raygun.

That's because federal workers do not have collective bargaining rights. You know, like they're trying to fix with the Wisconsin workers.

That's why despite Barry saying this:

“And understand this: If American workers are being denied their right to organize and collectively bargain when I’m in the White House, I’ll put on a put on a comfortable pair of shoes myself. I’ll walk on that picket line with you as president of the United States.” -- Barack Obama, 2007

He sat on the sidelines and worked indirectly through his union boss employers.
