If anyone has actually watched football game film from the 60's or 70's you would swear that the film was being played in fast motion. Perception has led us to believe that athletes and teams of today are vastly superior to athletes and teams from years ago. It isn't exactly so. Given the opportunity to train, eat, and possible juice as todays athletes do, I think you would find that they match up equally and maybe in some cases the elite athletes of years ago would even be better than some of todays athletes.
We're getting on a slippery slope here with the race issue. Thin ice was crossed long ago however.
i agree with alot of what you said but there is no way the game of football from the 60's and 70's is as fast or near as fast as today. no way, no how. i trained combine guys when i was a speed/strength coach and the numbers from 20 years ago dont match those of today. the guys are simply bigger, stronger, and faster at every position. lineman of today could be linebackers 40 years ago. ive seen 300 lbs men run 5.0 40's. today is head and shoulders above the past.
but the whole breeding and genetic component is bullshit. though smaller calves do allow for faster running and higher jumping.
