Help me out here guys

What do you guys do when you're bulking, but you feel that you are just putting on too much weight around the midsection.

Obviously some is expected while bulking, but I'm talking excess.

Diet is always extremely clean, cheat meals are very few and far between.

7 meals/day all between 500-700 cals

I've been going by these ratios:
20 cals/lb
2g carb/lb
1.5-1.75g protein/lb

1) Should I lower total cals w/ ratios the same?

2) Lower carbs and keep cals the same by adding some more healthy fats?

3) Or just lower cals which would lower total cals?

4) Lower milk intake?

Lower Cals on non workout days

add cardio 3 days a week

and i would drop the milk
I wanted to avoid cardio, I'd rather just drop cals instead.
My appetite is so shitty that I can feel completely full on under 2500 cals/day no problem, so 4000 is a struggle.
I think you may be right about the milk, I may have to ween my way off of it though.

No milk and lower the carbs, your dead set against cardio but id try to work a bit in...even if its some jump ropes between sets.

too many hormones in milk bro,
bloats you big time,
u have to do cardio, theres no way around it.
the more cardio u'll do the hungerier u'll get too, so stack those calories right and clean bulk

Naugh - stick with the milk, it's the best way to pack protein into your diet especially if you have a low appetite. If you want to bulk then cardio will cut back on your growth so just forget that and do high intensity training – that’s all the cardio you need. Also forget about calorie cutting – especially on your off days – (we should all know diet is just as important on off days as it is for the days we are training). Really what it comes down to is – u gotta choose one or the other – live with luv handle for a couple months with more growth or choose to get into a constant battle with your body every time you look in the mirror and think you too thick.

low fat milk is it? even a little cardio after your lifting session can work, 15mins uphill fast paced walking. obiously no carbs before bed. are you taking 4000cals a day now?

I don't do any cardio when bulking but I ran into the same problem. If I cut cals I don't grow, so I just strated to do 10 min of light cardio 3 days a week and am seeing a big difference in the mid-section. Drop the milk if poss.

Mac, I am experiencing the same damn problem as we speak! I've tried cutting out the milk, and adding fats but that didn't work. Cutting carbs seems to help but then I can't keep up my caloric intake. I am starting to think it may be an internal problem, possibly bloat from Testosterone Enanthate?

Same deal for me. I think bloat is a big factor. Don't be too afraid to up your fat guys. Milk is bs and I just wouldn't drink it. That definitley can make you bloated. Try easing back on carbs and replace it with PB or some almonds. Easy to cals with fat.

I am having the same problems with the midsection also.I also drink alot of fat free milk. With all these negatives about the milk, i think we should cut it out of our diet and see what happens??? I hate the midsection,So hard to lose it.

Alot of opinions here.
It's not that I'm against cardio, I actually enjoy running, the problem is the lack of appetite in conjuction w/ running would never allow me to reach my daily caloric limit.
The reason I use milk is just for the fact that it is an easy way to get in cals, but w/ that comes all that sugar.
I'm taking in about 4100 cals right now and weighing in just under 200 at the moment.
I don't think it's test bloat, I just started my cycle on Mon. and that was only 250mg.

I'm thinking of cutting out the milk, adding another cup or 2 of oats to replace carbs lost from milk intake and then adding extra nuts(almonds, peanuts and cashew) to replace lost cals.
Any suggestions to this.

is this a bulk cycle youve just started bro?
Yes it is.
I've been sticking w/ about 4100-4200cals for the past 10wks or so minus a 2wk low cal run.
I'm not trying to avoid fat gain altogether, because that is inevitable while bulking, it just bothers me when I see more mass building in ab region as opposed to arms, legs etc.
Damn love handles!!!

i know how you feel im in the process of getting rid of my handles and ab fat as we speak so i can start next cycle. i would just stick it out thru this cycle and concentrate on cutting up after youv finished PCT

To lose fat, it all comes down to . .

50% diet

50% exercise

So without cardio, it will be hard.

Especially if your in that age range of the big

40, cause of the slower metabolism.

Sounds like your having a tough time getting

in your 4,000 cals per day as it is. So i would just

bulk then cut, it does make life easier.

I'm not actually trying to cut, just making an adjustment to my diet to minimize fat gain while still making muscle gains.
Last cycle I started at 3800 and continually lowered to about 3400, just to see if I could still make gains.
3400 was definitely to low since my weight completely stalled at that intake.
Still experimenting w/ differant macros and total cals to see what works best for me.

I figure out everything on my own just by reading the labels.
Hell, I don't have to do that anymore since I have everthing memorized.
Looks like just under 100g
All from red meat, nuts, cottage cheese and oats.
This thead wouldn't be complete w/out a needto post.

Fuck cardio.

You have to expact some belly bloat when bulking. It's real old school but wearing a sweatbelt when training helps lose fluid from the area. That'll help. Herbal diuretics will help. Other than that, don't worry about it or expect some magical maconutrient combo to be the answer. Just grow.

As for the obliques, there's absolutely nothing that can be done beyond a certain point. It's the last hold out for fat. The handles are the perfect place to get lipo. Doesn't hurt since there isn't much muscle/nerve endings in the area. Sure, it's $2000 but hell, that's 4 orders from some of out friends. :)

I like that idea i'm 50 and i've never had much trouble with them until now and they are being stubborn as hell, MAC maybe we can get about 10 bro's together and get someone to give us the bulkers discount................... LOL Any plastic surgeons up in here! I've heard that fat won't return to the area after lipo is that true? sorry for robbing your thread bro.......

The fat is gone forever. Of course, the fat cells that remain can always enlarge if you get sloppy and/or the metabolism ages/slows down. I had it done -- almost on a dare -- I took an assignment to check it out. Got it for free I said, fuck it, why not. In the rectus abs, it was kinda pointless cause I'm always pretty lean. It also hurt like hell. But the obliques were a breeze.

I'm well aware that some fat is to be expected, I have bulked once or twice before.
But if I get to the point where I think that to cut what fat I have is going to leave me w/ less muscle then I currently have then something needs to be changed.
It' s pretty much an impossible question to answer since everyone responds so differantly to differant macros, but I just wanted to get some other perspectives on this issue.
When did you have the lipo done?
Pleased w/ results?

o hell ya i do,but just saying if you really wanted to clean it up....eat chicken and fish.
I think my cals may get too low w/ that option though.
Diets are so frustrating sometimes.
Still need to find what works for me.
Narrowing it down just not quite there yet.

You could try alternating the carbs, high carb days and low carb days. Stick to the chicken and fish as mentioned. I'd cut out the milk too. Drink lots of water. Watch the sports drinks they are loaded.

I stay away from any type of sport or energy drink, only milk and water for me.
Looks like maybe only water from here though.

nothin is wrong with extra lean ground beef and top sirloin steak it makes an excellent pro fat meal. I would keep the red meet in.. Try posting your entire diet for a look see

also i would add cardio just for general health purpose i mean say your bulking for 4 months without any cardio activity. The old ticker wont be too happy.. Bulking doesn't mean fattening

needtogetaas said:
are you drinking????? come on tell the truth.

I would still add cardio 30 min pwo 1-3 days..also keeping in some cardio when cutting roles around you wont be bitching i hate cardio because you haven't done jack shit for 4 months

Lower Dairy, Lower Carbs by .5-.7 grams per pound,
Add LIPOFLAME 2 times daily at 3 caps in the AM, and 3 midday.

But I'm not actually dieting right now, just making some minor adjustments to my diet.

I actually let my girlfreind run it.
Didn't really do much at all and she was up around 100mcg/day.
Hardly any shakes or warm feeling and didn't lose much weight and she was doing cardio and eating clean.
I have yet to try it, but I'm not big on stims anyways.

The first place I start putting on the extra weight is the lower abs and love handles. I have been able to lose fat and add muscle the same time without cardio. My weight training is so intense I am too spent to do cardio. I have significantly cut down my carbs and upped my H20 intake. I also take an ECA stack in the morning and pre-workout. Some might say that is strictly for when dieting but it hasn't affected my anabolic ability. You really don't need cardio unless you got 20+ pounds you wanna lose. Carefully track what you eat down to the last detail (if you are not already) and slowly adjust by 500 cals at a time. What do you currently weigh? Height?

It has the uncanny ability to slim the torso. Don't use so much of it if it makes you feel bad. I've never heard of anabolic androgenic steroids doses as high as elite uses...

1-2 gals of water a day will supress appetite and keep metabolism firing. Cold water actually burns cals as the body needs to heat it back up to 98.6*. Try taking all carbs from fruits and veges only. Also 8 egg whites and a couple oz of meat for breakfast works for me. i.e no carbs for breakfast and veges and meat ONLY for dinner

5'11" 195-200
I do track meals.
I actually write down a meal plan for the entire day comprised of the # of cals, protein and carbs and will eat that until I feel I need to adjust it.
Makes it easy to adjust when you know EXACTLY what you are eating.
I'm not trying to lose weight, just trying to make some minor adjustments to diet to minimize fat while bullking.
I have not fat anywhere except love handles and lower abs.
Rest of me is very cut and defined except that area.
The thing is that I'm probably not more than 10-12%BF max but waist is still about 37" right now.
Not happy w/ that.

The problem isn't my appetite though.
I've got the shittiest appetite for someone trying to gain weight, but I can cut like nobodies businsess, due to the fact that I feel my best at around 2000cals.
The less I eat the more energy I have, opposite of most people.
I've actually been so fed up w/ my appetite lately that I've considered resorting to a 60-70% all powder diet.
Not by choice, just for the fact that all this whole food makes me miserable, bloated, gassy and kills my energy.
Maybe I just was never meant to be a big guy.

Sounds like you actually have it under control. You are very meticulous like me. I carry around my little notepad and use the mirror, scale, and clothes as my aids.

It may be just your genetics. My waist is fairly large to. It is about 38 even when I was in the 7% range. I just got big thighs, hips, & waist.

If you can stand a little less initial energy try dropping some grams of carbs and replacing with an equal amount of protein. I find keeping my protein at an ungodly level it helps me still bulk but without the fat.

I might have to look into that.
Cutting carbs would be no problem for, can function perfectly w/ out them.
Here's how I would describe my body, powerlifter upper half w/ an Abercrombie and Fitch model lower half.
It sucks but getting better.

If that is the case increased fiber may help. Up the water intake and be careful with powders, they have lots of "hidden" sugars.

Maybe ramping up the cals would help your body get used to it...

I've got wide shoulders which makes my torso look blocky if I get too big. I have no problem gaining weight and cutting is hard for me.

By the way -- have you had your thyroid levels checked? That has a lot to do with it.

No I have not.
Can thyroid affect appetite?
I know it controls metabolism so I guess in a way it does affect appetite.
The thing is I'm not a heavy guy and have no trouble losing weight, it's just the appetite issue.
I've been taking inj. b12, ginger root for digestion, it's just like my body refuses whole foods anymore.
When I was younger I looked like an Ethiopian and couldn't gain weight if I tried, ate all the time.
Against my better judgement, I think I'm going to resort to an almost all powder, oats and nut diet.
It's not optimal, but I'm at my wits end w/ making myself utterly miserable trying to get all this whole food down.
We'll see what happens.

The thyroid effects a lot of things. And you don;t have to be heavy to have an underactive thyroid.

Ok, but wouldn't I have trouble losing weight if my thyroid was underactive?

Appreciate the K. The thyroid is a funny bugger. It hasn't so much to do with weight as it does with fat. Of course with "normal" people it's all about weight but for bodybuilders it' s about fat/muscle ration. And thyroid hormones are anabolic. They regulate androgen recptors, IGF-1 -- all sorts of goodies we want at full speed.

Synthetic T4 or T3 obviously kicks this in gear but if you can get a hold of Armour Thyroid, it's made from real thyroid and has all the cofactors in proportion -- T2 , T3. T4.

For a natural approach, you can try desicatted thyroid which has trace amounts. That of course in one of the ingredients in ZIP. :) It's real old school and not especially sexy because it won't make you feel real jacked but it's the smart way to burn fat which is why I wanted to put it in a formula -- hard sell and all.

But again, if you want the hardcore stuff, track down soem Armour. It was supposedly a fav of Frank Zane.

And as for the lipo, as I said, I didn't really need it and wouldn't recommend it for the rectus. But I would for the obliques. Radical, I know, but hey -- like everything else we do here isn't radical? And it works. And it's permanent.

Thanks for the info.
This is an area that I'm not too familiar w/ quite yet, so it's all pretty new to me.
Lipo is definetely something I would consider, but only later in life and only if I really needed it.
So that is no longer a problem area for you?

When I'm bulking I up my cardio to 4x's a week, 2 20 min HIIT sessions, and 2 30 (45 min on a good day) min walking sessions. I always burn at least 350 cals (300 on a bad day) and its been working good for me. Oh and I drink alot of skim milk. and I use strawberry or vanilla flavored protein on my breakfast cereal or oatmeal.

And Yes I did said I do more cardio while bulking. but when i'm bulking I eat semi-clean, ok i eat pretty much anything besides fried food and desserts, but when i'm cutting i eat super clean.

The only oats I eat are oatmeal, and that bloats my stomach, and 1/2 cup with cottage cheese keeps me full for hours.
I too get a thick waste when I try to gain size. A lot of it seems to be internal distension, as my abs are still visible in the morning, or after a good sweat.
I grew up a severe ectomorph, so I just except the temporary extra inches on the waist as a fair trade off for the semi permenant extra inches every where else.

Same here, i wake up and my abs are kickin and i'm lean, during a bulk cycle. but after meal upon meal and a gallon of half of water i eventually feel bloated during the day. sometimes i feel like i just need a good crap. but i've got a better handle on my body now and i can construct my diet on wed-fri so i look good, not bloated, on sat, which is my cheat day. If i watch what i eat and drink on those days i always look good enough to kick it in a tank top or shirtless while i wash my car on sat and watch all the desperate housewives in my hood drool, and ask my wife how i am in bed while gossiping over their morning coffee

I know that feeling all too well.
I sware all this food has permanently stretced out my abdomin, cause I don't really have all that much fat but midsection is so much larger than it used to be, luckily I have really broad shoulders though.

What do you use as your main carb source?
I eat fruit for breakfast right before I wourkout, dex for pwo shake and oats for the next 4 meals and none for the 7th meal.

What do you guys do when you're bulking, but you feel that you are just putting on too much weight around the midsection.

First of all, I always blame someone else,
my wife, kids, gym the grocery store,

It is never my fault.

Unfortunately you have a decision, cut back or keep eating, I don’t have an answer.

By the way, what are your stats and what is your cycle.

If in doubt and nothing else works add Fina and more test, cut calories.

Unfortunately you have a decision, cut back or keep eating, I don’t have an answer.

By the way, what are your stats and what is your cycle.

If in doubt and nothing else works add Finaplix - trenbolone acetate - and more test, cut calories.

Thanks for the info.
This is an area that I'm not too familiar w/ quite yet, so it's all pretty new to me.
Lipo is definetely something I would consider, but only later in life and only if I really needed it.
So that is no longer a problem area for you?

Again, it was never really a "problem." I had a little fat removed and it's gone. I can't say how much worse it would be all these years later but it has to be better, right? The thing with lipo is, you shouldn't get it done too late in life. You can wind up with loose skin if it isn't elastic enough to spring back. I'd say 40 is the cut off point for most people.

The thyroid effects a lot of things. And you don;t have to be heavy to have an underactive thyroid.

So true...Last year I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid at 5'8", 160 lbs, and about 12% BF. I've been lean all of my life, but when I started feeling like I had the energy of a 100 year old man and my hair started falling out, I knew something was up.

When I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, I couldn't believe it...but getting on Armour Thyroid has made me feel so much better.

Armour Thyroid is an excellent medication.

If you want to get tested, Free T3 is what you're after.

What do you use as your main carb source?
I eat fruit for breakfast right before I wourkout, dex for pwo shake and oats for the next 4 meals and none for the 7th meal.

I can't say that I have a main carb source, I eat a lot of potato and pasta products - a nice way of saying junk food. 18 years ago I was concentration camp skinny, so I set my nutritional priorities on total calories, and at least 300 gr of protien a day. I put the most thought into the food I eat pre and post workout, the rest of the day I just try to fill my caloric requirments to meet my body weight goals. As a powerlifter, my concern of how I look is entirely a vanity issue - but an important one.

Im speaking fom past experience as I currently look like shit but..

I think at just under 200 lb 4000 calories is perfect.
Also if on a bulking cycle and Im looking to jump from 200 to 220 lb then I must do some cardio or I start to feel like one of those fat ladies who get out of breath walking across the room.
So I say 4000 calories/moderate cardio
