heavy lifting vs. sleeping

I noticed on my more intense days (power cleans or squats), Im ready to hit the sack about 9! Normally, Im a total night owl :)

anyone else have this problem? Ive even moved all my lower body workouts to early in the week- so Im not fryed on Friday & Saturday night.

any suggestions would be helpful :)

When I am training hard and heavy, I MUST sleep more.

While on vacation overseas in February, this was my daily routine.

8:00 wake up
9:00 eat meal I
10:30: eat meal II
11:00: walk to gym
1:00: back home for lunch and 1/2 bottle wine
2:00 sleep
4:00 wake up
5:00 eat
6:00 go out for the night
11:00-12:00 bed

You have to sleep to recovery. Heavy weights and heavy compound exercises demand a lot on your body. Of course...I would demand a lot on your body too.

especially after the hot shower and the dinner

Actually after dinner I no longer want to go to sleep

high intensity WO + proteins = elevated metabolism that should prevent you from sleeping even though your CNS is exhausted

I'm not sure if its true but perhaps when you workout at high intensities your body secretes more serotonin. That in turn is converted to melatonin at night to make you drowsy/sleepy. Just a thought.

this past semester, my routine was

8am - eat (ok, drink 600+ cal shake)
930 or 10 - class
11 or 12 - workout
1 or 2 - LARGE high cal/protein shake
3-4 - eat
then i'd want to sleep. i'd fight to stay awake to cook dinner.
6 - eat
eat maybe 2 more times later on. i'd be up til 12 or 1 every night, back up by about 730.

school and working out is tough. gotta get classwork done, and with kids, i can't do a damn thing until they're in bed.

Random leg day:

Wife: You want to go out to dinner or a movie tonight?
ME: Can't honey...it's leg day.
Wife: Great...so you'll be asleep on the couch by 5?
ME: Yep. Can you wake me up about 7:30 so I can eat again?
Wife: Are you going to be a crabby little baby? You're so whiny on leg day...
ME: Thanks for the support honey. Can you just wake me up please?

Of course. It was the life!!! Lots of food, lots of wine, decent gym.

(as she dodged me flirting with her)
