Half-A$$ bench press

Does it get on your nerves when guys get under there with wayyy too much weight and go about 3 inches and down and call it a bench press

I have a buddy that's about 6'3 200lbs 10% bf. he should work out with around 225 to get full range of motion, but he throws 285 on and has about a 2 to 3 inch range of motion. It's not even a chest work out its a tri. Looks like he's just trying to re rack but can't reach or something

I do this specifically, although im sure most don't. I'll set the safety bars about 6 inches above my chest and start off at about 10% above my max bench weight. And keep adding till I cannot do more. I only do this when I train for a lift tho. Overload, strength, explosive, speed then plyo exercise.

Even worse is when they do that with a trainer.

What bothers me even more are that the majority of guys go in the gym and alternate doing bench and curls, and never go anywhere near a squat rack or do any deadlifts. Fuckin D-bag ass-hats I swear...

I'm with you on this. No gym etiquicy bothers me very bad.

this only reminds me that I have to go to the gym to compain about everyone and their bullshit

but fuck Im tired

I do 30 sets if curls in the squat rack
It takes me 3 hours
I do it everyday in hopes that someone will run home and start a thread about it...

I honestly don't care or pay attention to what other people do in the gym. I'm there for myself and my health. My life is full enough and don't need to stress about someone doing a bench press that someone deems incorrect. Maybe that's what's wrong with most people, they stress and get all worked up that a complete stranger is benching the wrong way. Not sure why anyone cares so much about someone else. If it bothers you that much go offer some advice and don't be a huge dbag and complain on a fitness forum. Where even more people don't give a shit either.

I love you

I just totally spit protien shake all over the place. If you would have said you hang your belt on the smith machine and set your gym bag across the last available flat bench. I would never have been able to clean all this up.

it gives me a way to focus my life frustration in an inappropriate place

way to shit on my therapy

It doesn't bother me when people do curls at the squat rack, however I recently had to change my leg day from Monday to Tuesday, as 2 dudes and a chick seem to take over my favorite squat rack for about 2 hours every monday night. They do squats, zercher squats, dead lifts, curls and military presses there, all while talking between each set.

Generally, I ignore people and don't really care what others are doing in the gym, but these 3 really piss me off. I think it's because they face the wrong direction in the squat rack. It annoys the fuck out of me.

Okay i have to ask... which way is facing the right way?

Who says doing the top half is even wrong. It's a great overload move for bench. And it kills my triceps. I do it purposely

The racks are up against the wall, facing a mirror, so I would say facing the mirror is the right way. however, all 3 of them back up to the the rack and face away from the mirror.

I always load up and take a couple backward steps from the rack so that way I can walk forward and see where the hangars are when I'm putting the bar down easier

Also the mirror would be in front of me this way too. Just more machines and ppl to see the other way

Yeah, I do that too, but these three are facing the opposite direction, so when they re-rack the weight they need to back up into the hangers. Since there is no mirror in front of them, they are blindly looking for the hangers.

the way woody described is how the squat rack is situated in my gym

take A step back from where its loaded towards the "oh shit" bars/angle iron

did you really ask this?

I face the rack so i can see to rack the bar obviously.
So what do they do?
Back up until they bump into it and hope its set in the pins right?
Btw i WO at home, have my own rack.
But i still go to the gym ed and do those curls :)

haha...Ive had more than a few teenage kids doin curls in the squat rack at my gym

yeah...Ive seen the blind back up and Im always waiting for something horrible to happen

my cure for the curling/benching teenagers that are just earning scene points is to start lifting more than they do and look really annoyed

they always leave...probably terrible for their ego
