wtf? Pen's family were the ones who stopped the fight cause they were scared he'd get so badly hurt
GSP could've beaten Pen with his hands tied behind his back in a phone booth that night....
Here are the factors at play here:
Pen looked like he was scared shitless coming into the ring - he didnt look his usual confident self
When GSP walked into the ring, he instantaneously started running - he wanted to eat Pen alive
GSP looked in excellent shape, Pen looked like shit
GSP passed Pen's guard 11 times (Pen's gaurd has only been passed once in his career in UFC before this night)
GSP takedown success was more thna 90% that night with one of the best takedown defenders in the game
GSP out-jabbed Pen, something that usually doesnt happen
GSP had an awesome game plan and he played it out till the finish
Oh yeh, and let's not forget the vicious rediculously one-sided ground and pound that made Pen look like a rag doll being tossed around
GSP, on that night, was just too strong, too fast, too good for Pen...Pen knows it, he's just not man enough to admit it....GSP should bitch slap him and tell hm to shut up before he hands him another ass whoppin
I agree Traz to a point. Here's the thing, though, Penn is world class. Lets not take anything away from him. I remember when he first beat Matt Hughes, I rememvber seeing the interview with Hughes and thinking he's gonna crush this Local Boy. Well, Penn won in his jujitsu way. As far as Penn looking chiseled?
Genetics brah... when has that dude looked like anything other than an average dude.
Yeah, I never thought his strategy would be to attack at full force GSP, but to get inside and counter. Penn is world class. However, GSP had way, way, way too much strength. Hell I"m at 171 right now around 12ish and would kill too look like as comic book like as GSP. Dude's overall combination of strength, speed, athletic ability, as well as increases in mental dexterity, and skill in as striker, and jujitsu defense, made his passing the guard, well not a big deal.
Again in my limited perspective, I thought that GSP has evolved tremendously as a fighter... his increases in strength, measuring, timing, confidence, and just overall flow are impeccable and he has really, really taken the UFC evolution to another uncharted level.
I would say we might be looking at the next prototype of the how the Gracies first dominated... the evolution of the Overall figther whose overall strength in all areas. To me it just signifed, that to excel in Jujitsu, and boxing, and yet to lack the physical prowess is not gonna cut it at that level. One has to be totally complete. GSP has taken, this idea, in my mind to a whole separate level.
As far as Penn, bitching... imagine coming back to your isolated paradise where you are revered and you got beaten that badly. Atleast Tito, didn't get abused like Penn. Of course, since his family is the premier family there, they are gonna get his back. Hawaii my friend is a very, very proud culture. I do not justify making excuses in fact I'm disappointed.
However in my mind, its not so much that Penn is a weak fighter, GSP has evolved to another stratus.
