Goal: Jacked inner pecs and thunderous biceps

Sun. 8/26/06

Back Squat: 135x10, 225x5, 315x5, 365x5, 405x5, 415x5, 365x8

Deadlift: 225x5, 315x5, 405x5, 500x5, 555x5

Decline Situps: Held a 10lb plate behind my head for 2 sets of 15

Everything felt good today, squats were solid, rep 5 on 415 was a grinder, but my feelings are if you can make it to 3, getting to 5 is just in your head.....deads were all easy, I should have gone to 6 plates x 5, but if I missed any reps, I'd get pissed off and it would seriously ruin my weekend, lol, so cleans next Sat, then heavy DL triples the next.

Man you are pretty damn bad. I want to be as hardcore as you this fall! Hang cleans for me today. Maybe Ill do some crazy stuff and do some 3's and some 1's. You really are a good example!

Proto, actually it doesn't really bother me, I'm used to squatting and pulling on the same day though, it's all I've ever really done, even when I split up upper work or pressing, I've really only known squats and pulls on the same day, so I am probably conditioned to it......my low back will get beat up at the end of a training cycle though just from fatigue that took several weeks to build up.

Shades, thanks.....I find olympic lifts work best in the 1 - 3 range, I'd rather just do more sets to get the work in, than get winded on reps 4 and 5 and have a total form breakdown.

I bet if people weren't so afraid of squats & pulls on the same day, we'd get conditioned to it and it wouldn't be so taboo. Part of the problem, as far as programming goes though, is that it's probably near impossible to realy push both lifts (e.g., new PRs) by combining them on the same training day throughout your cycle. IOW, I could see working squat PRs and then hitting 80-90% on pulls, but I think thre'd come a point where you just couldn't PR squats & then hope to hit a PR set of 5 on deads, for instance. But squats + pulls could dfeinitely be adapted to. I keep thinking I'll give that a whirl but then wus out and just go w/ rows. LoL I'd like to see what I can do back squatting AND DL'ing twice/wk.

one cool thing about doing squats before deads is that you'll recruit more leg drive in the pulling, simply because your body has got into a squatting groove. The downside is it's fucking horrible and makes you want to pass out :)

I used to love pairing up squats with stiff leg deads (and fronts & sumos).. good way to blow everything out at once.

Gotta get those squats over 5 man, you can do it no problem given your overall power

I did a ton of 1's today on hang clean and worked up 10lbs at a time from 135 and actually got 225. My problem on that damn lift is letting my legs bend to catch the weight. My pull is great but my feet tend to go out to dip instead of bending at the knees. It is just something I will need to work on.
