I have read two different opinions on what carb to take with insulin (humalog). One is to use dextrose the other fructose. According to Chad Nichols dextrose when used with insulin is out of the system too fast, so fructose is better as it is in the system longer with the insulin. This makes sense as I have read that muscles take up carbs slowly and fat sucks them up.
Now I take dextrose when not on slin to get an insulin spike from it. But since I am getting an insulin spike from the exogenous insulin, it seems that I wouldn't need a high GI carb with it. But I have also read that fructose doesn't help with muscle glycogen restoration. I've been using a dex/fructose split with the 'slin. Maybe the best would be to use a low GI carb along with dextrose to cover the 'slin, since I already have the insulin spike from the humalog.
What do y'all think about all this?
