For those who quit smoking.....

What were your nicotine withdrawal symtoms.

I quit over 2 weeks ago and last Thursday I felt like I was getting a chest cold that never matialized.
Yesterday and today I have this chest pain and feel like I can't take a deep breathe.
I just went for a walk and after 10 mins, I was so winded I thougt I was going to pass out.
I read a few sites that said nicotine withdrawal can make some people seriously sick

My immune system is compromised because of the lyme, but I'm suspecting this may be the withdrawal. I've been doing some good detoxing, but it doesn't seem to be helping.
I smoked min (3-4 a day) since I was 13. And I used to smoke pack a day up until 10 yrs ago

Any input? Am I dying?

you wont die. I do recall having throat issues after I quit In fact, i developed this throat clearing thing after that time as well. dont worry. it will pass and you will be breathe better for the rest of your life. I also dont get sick near as often and when I do, its not nearly as debilitating as it was when I was a smoker.
but yeah, your body's going through a lot changes and sometimes those are somewhat uncomfortable but its all for the better
Im proud of you blueta. i really am.

Thanks mucho. I knew it was time and I'll tell ya what, I have no cravings and will never smoke again. I'm totally done!

Not breathing great for weeks is worth breathing well for life. I should have done this years ago when I was dx with lupus and last summer with lyme.
How stupid an addict can be
ugh..I cringe when I think that I smoked

I know, me too. I cant believe how many thousands of cigarettes I polluted my body with over those 19 yrs. pitiful really
this is why I actually feel sympathy and pity for others who havent found it within themselves to quit yet.

When I quit I felt like crap for a few days but over time you'll have a ton more energy. I usually get insane energy after the major withdrawals are over.

Congrats and I wish you the best of luck in staying away from the cigs!

I started coughing awful bad and still have a pretty bad cough a couple a few times a day. But after a couple weeks I feel better and can actually smell and taste stuff. I still hock up crap in the AM, but not nearly as bad as before when large masses of green came out when I woke up.

Keep up the good work, my carvings ended when I decided to stop, the test was this weekend when staying at my riding bro's ranch drinking massive amounts of vodka & NOT smoking, they all do so I am done. We rode all day today and I can tell you, I don't miss the habit at all.

I guess everyone does it in their own time.

My homeopath freaked me out though. I saw her last week, told her I got up one day and just quit. Barely gave it thought, I just felt it.

She then tells me the homeopathy she gave me is also given to people who want to stop smoking. She showed me the info she has on these drops and it said 18 days from when the person stops the last dose, a shift of "eroding the addictions" will cease.
I quit 18 days after my last dose.

She said she had a high success rate with these drops for smokers.
But I was given these drops for strengthening my immune system

Thanks AV, I will stay away for life. I'm truly done. Not one craving since I stopped.
I hope I get that insane energy you had soon.

My friend took up smoking because of stress. He spent the weekend here and his breath smelled like a shit factory all weekend... Seriously, I thought there was a dirty diaper in my car and it was his breath from the cigarettes.

Good job to you also D
I've not coughed up anything yet. My chest feels tight as hell and I'm guessing my lungs are getting ready to expel the "gunk".
I used to be a heavy smoker when I drank, but since I had to stop drinking for a while, those cravings to smoke and drink went away.

Smokers breathe is awful, everything about smoking is just wrong

Just wait until you start coughing up stuff, that is the fun part.
I watched my mom battle trying to quit for years, finally has not smoked in almost 10 years. Anyways she got the chronic bronchitis and what not but nothing as bad as when she quit. To this day she now has what they call re active airways- kinda like asthma. Cannot smell perfume, cannot smell woodstoves, or other cigarettes without going on another "coughing spell". Funny when she smoked she did not have this problem.

Good for you Blue for making the decision to quit.

I do not understand smoking. I mean I tried to chain-smoke for a month in high school because everybody was doing it and my mother made it seem so enticing. When we used to nag her about quitting she would look at her cigarette (almost akin to looking at a lover - no shit) and say, "But if you only knew how hard it was to quit you wouldn't give me such a hard time."

At the end of the month I nearly vomitted and said, "OK, what is so fucking great about this?" Never EVER had the desire to smoke again.

I recently began smoking a cigar on occasion but there is NO WAY I could inhale them and truth be told, I smoke them so infrequently if I never smoked again... so?

Kudos to all of you who have decided to quit!!! :)

I quit Jan 1 and never had too much withdraw as I would chew tobacco once a day at night, so I knew I would get something when the craves would come. Never really had any withdraw in the physical sense. just craves

I quit about a year ago after being a pack a day kinda guy for the better part of 11 years. My chest did hurt initially and I did cough. It's all part of the healing process. Congrats on your decision to quit. Hang in there!

I had the same problems you did, but the Zyban took away the effects after awhile. Actually, I was probably the same, but didn't notice it.

lol @ having a homeopath and smoking.

Anyhoo... The coughing is normal. I smoked 1-2 packs per day for 9 years. When I quit, I was as grouchy as a rabid badger, would feel like I had no energy, got body aches like I was getting a cold, and had a dry, unproductive cough. It all passed and the cough had be spitting out phlegm balls the size of snails. You feel so good after you're done. The first spring after you quit you smell things you forgot were around. You get over a simple cold in a couple of days instead of a week or weeks. Food tastes better, and you don't smell like shit.

Good job.

Oh, and...

the phlegm production could last 6 months or longer. be ready to see some funky shit coming out.

good luck. they say it takes 10 years to consider yourself fully off nicotine.

what got you to quit?

what detoxing are you doing?

nicotine withdrawl has different effects on everyone. I use to smoke until I was diagnosed with cancer and that's enough to make you quit cold turkey. I can't say I got real sick from nicotine withdrawl or the cancer treatment but I did feel like shit for quite sometime before treatment even started. I was never a heavy smoker (4-5 a day and only on weekends when drinking) but that could easily be due to withdrawl. Slowly work in a good healthy excercise program to get your lungs use to fresh air. It will detox just takes awhile. As for the nicotine, it has run it's course and is long out of your system, it's all the other shit you have to detox now

i believe nicotine effects the "old brain". though it has left her system within 72 hours the first hit of smoke will bring her blood levels immediately up and cause her addiction to be the same as if she had been smoking for the last 24 months. pretty crazy. everytime i quit dip, whether it be for 5 years or a year and then start again for 2 weeks or so, the withdrawal is the same terrible shit. sucks.

HERE'S A LINK Blueta
I believe it has to do with cilia repairing itself after smoking cessation (smoking actually paralyzes the cilia)

http://www.stop-smoking-updates.com...what-causes-cough-after-smoking-cessation.htm

good link....thanks

Here's the scary part, I've not started coughing yet. I hope I get the shit out of my lungs. Maybe because I'm in constant detox from the lyme I won't, but I hope I get the tar out of my lungs soon.

I also have not exercised at all due to weakness, but tonight I did a 45 min work out. Let's hope I see some black/green stuff soon ;-)

Grew up in a smoking house and it's just what we did. I started when I was young also.
My Mom and Dad quit many years ago and one sister. The other sister still smokes, but I bet she's not far behind us.

Smoke is gross and I actually hated to smoke as I hit my 30's. Was just a dirty habit

Thanks E

You mean more so than usual? ;-)

Thanks......and I'm glad to know I'm not alone with all these symptoms.
Food does taste better and I'm actually getting an appetite back. I have not had an appetite in YEARS! I mean yeah my lyme kills that, but this was making it worse.

My homeopathy was to work on my lyme.

well was on the phone with my lyme dr in NY one night. When I got off the phone with her, something just clicked in my head. Seriously! And I said. I can't believe I smoke.
Next day I had 1/2 a smoke and said "I'm done" and that was it.

Like I said, my homeopath thinks it was the drops she gave me. These drops are called (Muscle Mountain since you asked) Pyrogenium.
This remedie is a common remedie for septic infections, but also given to people who want to stop smoking. But I didn't know this was an indication until I stopped smoking and told my HP
You have to understand how homeopathy works to get what I'm saying and if I explain it, I'll seem like a freak.
But after this, I'm a firm believer in homeopathy.

My detox program is all natural. Detox baths, some milk thistle. Lemon water and apple cider vinegar.
I was on heavy detox when I was on antibiotics for the lyme.
You think I would have been smart enough to quit when I was dx with lupus then lyme.
I'm a retard, but no more :-)

And good for u for quitting also. I know many people with cancer who still smoke.

I am just now getting over the coughing and crap hocking up. It has been a little over 2 weeks and I feel better and I actually started tasting and smelling stuff. People that smoke around me really stink when they walk by.

But, I am really glad I stopped. I can't believe I ever started.

Good for everyone that stopped smoking.

I am trying quit smoking and took Chantix. After a week I noticed tinnitus and then found in internet the same symptoms from many people who had taken Chantix. But they don’t mention in instruction about it. Have enybody experiece with Chantix?

Hey Blue,
I quit then stared back up last November smoking cloves, I smoke like 10 a day, and still do cardio... however, when I have quit, I quit through using Chantix, I didn't notice side effects, and I think that the extra dopamine, or nicotinic receptors that your body is used too, misses the buzz, so yeah, the compromise is that you will feel bitter, stressed, and this will cause cortisol elevation, so yeah this would be normal.
