Flax Oil hype???

Flax oil is very popular on the boards, but I dont know of any pros or any of the top competitors (or fitness models) who add it to their fat-loss program. It seems like low-fat diet is used almost exclusively to get to the low single digits for the shoot or competition. Looking at the diet of some of the pros, it would appear that the fat is completely eliminated but relying on egg-whites and very low-fat fish. I have tryed incorporating fats (EFA, fish oils, flax oil, gla, cla) into my fat-loss plan in verious ways, keeping the calories constant and substituting carbs with fats but failed to achieve the conditioning i am able to acheave consistently (<5% bf, measured with lange caliper) but removing the fats from my diet. Comments???

It has taken me so many diets to figure out which ones REALLY work well for me. I've even read some of the crazy blood type specific diet books... Try em all, record results then compare next time

I use about 150-175G of fat (exclusively from Flax/Fish oil/MCT's)
I'll have about 350G of Protein, and the only carbs I have are from "greens" (probably 20-30g)

I do this 5 1/2 days/week, and then "Carb-Load" Sat night/ most of Sun.

I find Flax to be the best fat burning fat.

I hear it all. I know whole bunch of guys on here take it, my point is I cant achieve the "shredded" look using oil, while its fairly easy for me to get that look by just eliminating the fat down to 5-10% of total calories

I use flax oil everyday.. It has nutritional benefits, Essential fatty acid.. It has healing power.. Rich in Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA) Beneficial for heart disease.. And as it was mentioned.. You need fat to burn fat.. ;)

After reading sparetires tpost I am DEFF getting some for my next diet

It's the most "dramatic" thing I've ever added to my diet.

I have 150-175 of pure flax oil fat grams/day (5 1/2 days of Carb Depletion)

It doesn't make me feel "lethargic" like Bacon and Eggs w/cheese

So far, so good - it's only gone "right through me" one day. ;)

It really IS the fat (along with MCT's) that literally "burns fat"

If you told me I could have that much fat in a day and lose weight while keeping and ADDING some muscle - I would have said you were sick in the head.

Have you ever tried a CKD Diet?

Does flax help only with low carb diets? I don't like low carb diets, I prefer a 30/40/30 split.

Just try to get "whatever" fats you have in your diet from Flax, and possible some fish oil - but I use Flax only

When dieting my intake is around 10% maybe less, using that approach I can easily achieve the "shredded" look. No oil added

I put some flax seed oil in every one of my protein shakes (you basically can't taste it and the pro's outweight the cons easily). I believe it really did help me loose the weight when I was trying to.

I put it in my shakes, and drink it straight with meals.

I went veg for awhile and didn't take too much of a hit on performance or muscle loss.. I have to attribute part of it to absolutely flooding my body w/ flax and other omegas

i have udos sitting in my fridge, i know i need to take it more often, but i dont...

i realized that OJ to chase it down works well to kill the after taste...

I have yet to infuse FLAX to my diet... seems like i should tho..

i really only take fish oil for the cals :p

dang... i really dont have a problem with the taste... plus if i get it in my mind ill take it down no problem, i guess i should go get some... does udo make flax?

i didnt know that, but i take it for the content...

i feel im doing more taking actual oil...

thanks for the help tho...

Personally i like the taste of flax oil and udu's, when i use it i would put it in a salad. What im trying to figure out why is there so much movement on the boards for the use of the EFA's when pros dont use them to peak? After talking about the issue with some of the hardcore gym rats, the answere that i got most often is flax is great when trying to drop from double digit BF to high single digits (8-9%), but to go to 5% and lower, flax is not used. Comments???

Is it bad to combine flax oil and tonalin CLA? I read somewhere that tonalin prevents the body from absorbing fat. It might be a false statement since I can't find it anymore. Any thoughts on this? I use to take 9 caps of tonalin a day. Is that too much?

I just found a brand that has all 3 fat (Flax, Fish, Borage Oil), Good N' Natural.

Do you think it's a good brand?

Newbie here,
I take udo's oil, It is a mix of Flax, Sesame, coconut, evening primerose oil and soy lecithin. I usually just put it in my protein shake. Would I be better taking JUST Flax Oil.

When is the best time to take fish oil caps. or udos' oil? I know it inhibits the absorption of protein, so I don't take it after. Is it beneficial to take it before?

I take 1/3 cup flax seed, ground up and mixed with a scoop of vanilla protein powder with orange juice. It provides about 15g of fiber also.

In addition to its fat burning properties it is also very good for your skin & hair and helps cure "dry eye"

But when do you take it? Is before your workout alright? Or right when you wake up? Or before bed?
Thanks in advance! :)

Ronnie Coleman doesn't eat any vegetables...they bloat him, maybe fat bloats you? Everyone is different...

personally I take 2 flax tablets with each meal and I have deffienntly perfected single digit BF% from wreslting seasons...I have been well below 6% measured in a tub

Flax oil has always seemed really pricey to me? Can you buy it anywhere on the cheap?

pricey?? maybee if your buying the pill form and takin 20 caps a day, go to your local health food store and buy a bottle of straight oil, it is not very expensive. Udo's and Barleans are the only brands that i will buy btw
