yeah, this makes me less smug my best friend of 11 years is a dude...that hasnt tried to hit it since like....10.5 yrs ago...
and will likely be the only person left when everyone else is gone (dead whatnot)...and the person that agrees mutually it would be best if there WAS an attraction because we can only really stand living with each other
I did have one guy friend tell me that he struck up a convo with me because he was attracted, but then realized we made great friends and he didn't want to screw it up with any kind of romantic relationship. What about that? Can't guys just decide that a chick is important enough to them not to go there?

I can tell you they are strictly in the friend zone. I recognize that they are good looking, but there is no attraction there. They are both to goody goody for me to be interested in either one, but they make good friends.
So tell me if this is something guys use cause this is what I am told by my guy friends:

holy shitballs the thread blew up and I went through it too quickly and I'm seriously confused. Convos about rocks and lovie dovies etc. Wish I would've been paying attention but I finally got to Skype with Nate tonight he was totally MIA over the last few days and acting distant - which has me concerned. Ugh. Dating and feelings totally blow.
Are things moving to fast for him? From what you said he seems to be particular about the pace of the relationship. Maybe he just needs a little space?

as in I drink coffee - he doesn't. I bought a coffee maker (small one - like 6 or 8 cups) and when I left it was still on the counter with some left in the "pot"/carafe or whatever it's called. he wasn't a fan. Also, I left his place at 4:30am so I guess I wasn't thinking about putting the coffee pot away.

actually talking to him tonight was good... he's been distant the past couple days, and I had a shitty holiday, spent Christmas by myself - and I think he was trying to make a point and it made it extra hard. He did tell me tonight that he misses me and can't wait to see me (driving there Wed or Thurs). I am acting needy and he's afraid to take down his walls. Whole lots of over thinking is going on.

Now that is the oldest line in the book, lol. Not saying it isn't true, but that is exactly what I'd tell you because I know that is what you want to hear.
During my last stint being single I ended up doing the same thing girls do. I had lots of girls as my friends kind of how girls can have guy friends.
It is just a lot easier to have people attracted to you around you. It is also a lot better to look at them than my buddies and they go along with what you say. I also missed female companionship as well. The last reason I had Girls as friends was the ego boost to know that I was wanted by these pretty girls.
But I am not stupid... I knew that if I didn't look the way I did that they would be less likely to pick up the phone and hang out with me. Being a guy I know exactly how it goes. There is a certain bit of emptiness I guess to know how shallow people are and that your exterior determines so much.
I was that skinny kid who didn't have it so easy for a long time and I understand how life can be so much more challenging.

Dude. That sucks. But I did ask....so thanks for being honest.I was a late bloomer, so I know what you are talking about as far as how shallow people can be. I think this is why I am very picky about the guys I am attracted to and why I watch who I am friends with. I tend to pick the person who will be honest with me over saving my feelings as far as friendship goes.

Why would girls want to just hang out with guys? There's an ulterior motive there somewhere. If a girl is incapable of having girl friends, then they are not being friendly enough and are scared of rejection. That's why they call other girls bitches, to mask their insecurities.

Uh...no, it means that the girl does not want to put up with the mind games chicks play with each other. The acting all nicey-nicey to your face only to find out that the chick is jealous of your looks, your friendship, whatever. Or that you said something and your chick friend is reading all kinds of meanings into what you said and you didn't even mean anything by it in the first place. Oh and let's not forget PMS. Most guys don't sweat the small stuff and if something bothers them they will say something, you may argue, but it will end. Women will hold on to it for years.

If he respected you, the texts should have been different. No way to tell for sure what his motives were, and could be a giant a misunderstanding; maybe he's a terrible communicator with lousy body language. Whatever the case, if it wasn't all a setup for him to get laid, he'll apologize soon, and explain. It's up to you at that point if you think it's for real or not. With all due respect to the other bros who posted on this, it IS possible for a guy to want to just hang out with a girl. I will say that chemistry is against it though, if both people are straight, and without emotional issues. I can't remember any friendship I've had with an attractive female, where the the thought of more, didn't at least cross my mind.
