F*ck!!!!!!!!!

Well ... doing 50mph on my ZX-11 Saturday morning 06:15 ... leaning into a nice looooong turn to the right ... and just in the apex of the turn, there is a pothole. My front wheel hit it, lifted the cycle out of it's position in turn, pulled it straight up, I went off the the road, through the bushes and slammed into a cement wall.

Now I'm at home. My bike is in pieces. My riding gear is damaged well and proper. My left han is busted up pretty bad. My helmet is split open. My upper lip is busted open badly. My knees ache like hell from the impact. I have a hole in my right ankle and I broke my back. I broke Verterbrae T7&8 and cracked T6. The doctor called me a 'Freak-of-Nature' for still being able to stand up and walk around following all. Apparently, if my back muscles weren't so dense and strong, I would've been paralyzed or dead ... without a doubt! She cannot even supply me with a back brace, because if we try to fit one which works with my hips, then it's too small for my lower back muscles ... and if we fit one which fits my back muscles, it's too big for my hips and just slide down. So now I have to depend on my 'freakish' back muscles to keep my spine aligned while I recover.

I'm goinog to be out of training for some time ... clearly ... and I am SO FRUSTRATED at not being able to lift! And I've started to make the 5X5 program work for me! Got to nice decent lifts ... but now it's all shot to shit! How long is it going to take me to DL 525 again? Or to bench 405? Or Squat 425? I am looking at at least 12 weeks out of training ... that's 3 bloody months! Arrrrrgh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy fuck man you were lucky.. all the best with your recovery. Hate to see a brother of iron out of the game

fuck man, i was starting to wonder where you had been... i was kind of worried about you and now I see with good reason... TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF... I would come and help you out if you were on the same continent as me man... I feel terrible for you... Take good care of yourself and if there's anything I can do for you, let me know! Its good to have you back and I am happy that at least you are okay!

i pretty much took off 3 months and held a decent level of strength... 475 dead and 405 squat after all that time i only lost like 50lbs on my big lifts... i know you may be out longer, and due to atrophy from inactivity may be a deeper issue though...
im sure you will be back in action much sooner than you expect...
keep your head up bro, be thankful to be alive!

Be glad you are able to have created this thread, glad to hear you survived what could have been a horrific tragedy bro. You just recover and try to enjoy some down time...yeah I know, the hardest thing for any of us is to stay out of the gym, but again at least you will be back to it in no time...rather than never again.

i lead an active life too and shit happens when you do that. i know it could cost me muscle in the process but so what.. enjoy life and keep your hobbies going. thats the risk you take so don't feel down about it.

you will come back. muscle memory is real, just make sure you stay patient and let things heal up

also this is why i tell guys not to take time off from lifting for long periods.. cause stuff like this happens and you gotta take time anyway, so while you are healthy keep killing it. when you get hurt take time off. its totally good to let the body heal up anyway.. pro athletes have offseasons for a reason don't forget

good luck on your recovery...I highsided one of my bikes once because another bike cut me off in a corner (I walked with scrapes from that one)
hubs got hit head on 65mph on his bike two yrs ago...he lost a nut...could be worse! haha

seriously tho...be careful with your spine until it heals...its sucks but theres nothing you can do about it
I took a year off from the gym and it took me three months to get back where I left off...hubs took 6 mths off took him about 2mths
muscle memory is real

You know what they say about people who ride motorcycle -- there are those who've been in accidents and there are those who WILL be in accidents. (I already had mine).

Dude -- YOU'RE ALIVE! I'd say you're pretty lucky.

Get well soon.

what the hell essie! did u say u have holes in u... sheez. nice to know that helmet worked but sucks about ur back. good luck with a speedy recovery man. and if u lose a little strength then just make it back with some tren when ur healed :)

Glad you're ok, this is the exact reason i quit riding bikes, a dog ran out in front of me on a gravel road, i laid down on the front brakes too hard resulting in throwing me over the handlebars, the bike caught up to me and dragged me across the rocky pavement, snapping the nylon strap on my helment, it shocked the nerves & muscles in my neck resulting in my head just falling to the side of my body like it was broken, they also picked out pea size gravel out of my ass and body which was no fun either. take as much time as needed even if it takes 6 months or longer, muscle memory will have you back up running in no time. Glad you're alive.

As a fellow rider I am so glad to hear you are alive. Take the time to rest up and heal, you have a life ahead of you to get back to where you were, just be thankful for that.

Glad it isn't worse than it could have been.
We should start a club of people here who have trashed a bike, there seem to be a lot of us.
Heal up, and then when you are ready get back into the gym. Just don't do what I did, and take 10 years off after the accident before getting back to the gym (I could have been back in 3 or 4 months, just lost motivation)
On the upside, muscle memory IS real, and even after 10 years out of the gym, it only took me about 4 or 5 months to be right back to where I was....and it is rather fun to be adding 10 or 20 pounds to your lifts every week during that period.
Rest, recover, and plan your comeback. Glad you are still with us.

Man, hate to see this happen to such a good bro, but I have taken a couple bad spills on two wheels and I was just thankful I lived.

Muscle memory is a wonderful thing bro, dont sweat it. Just get yourself well!

Sorry to hear that bro. Hope you have as speedy a recovery as possible.
Riding is just too dangerous. I want to get another bike, but with 4 kids its just not in the cards.

Thak you to everyone for the well wishes! I really appreciate it. One of the MANY reasons why I love EF. I am well aware of, and thankful for, the fact that things are not as bad as they could've been, however, it doesn't make me less human or iron-mad ... so I still feel depressed over the fact that I cannot get to the gym and pump it out. I might be able to get back to where I was in less than 6 months after starting training again ... but just to think where I COULD'VE BEEN then! LOL!!!!!!!This was my 2nd motorcycle accident in 15 years ... and both with Kawa's. Perhaps I should change to Suzuki, or Honda, or SOMETHING ELSE! LOL!!! :D Nah ... I'm a Kawa guy ... always have been (since before the GPZ1100) and prob's always will be.

I haven't seen the bike yet ... and I cannot really get to the guy who assisted me with removing it from the scene. I cannot even handle the thought of seeing the damage to it! 'SIGH'.

Again, thank you all for the support and kind words. I'll keep this thread updated as I go along on my road to recovery ... I have a feeling that I'll be needin' a helluva lotta moral support from here ... I am honestly depressed, as in properly DEPRO at the fact tha I cannot train and have to lie down in bed EVERY DAY THE WHOLE DAY! :(

Just an idea I have heard somewhere before, but I suggest finding something to keep your mind busy during this period. Get into some books you may have not otherwise found time to read, find something you want to learn, and study it...read up about nutrition and training, etc.
Yeah, you will still probably feel depressed, but this can help keep your mind off it, and at the same time, you are still improving yourself....if you can't be working on improving your body, then work on something else until you can. Sounds simplistic maybe, but give it a try.
Hope your recovery is quick and smooth.

Yah, Thx Bro. I have already started keeping my mind busy with reading materials, but it's rather hard to stay focused as the morphine kicks in and you try to concentrate on what you're reading ... lol! Though, when I'm not on morphine, I read and debate and reason and try to understand some things which always messed with me. I am currently busy looking at the ACTUAL MOLECULAR differences between tren, deca (nandro) and test, but the shit is quite hard to find on the net in a format which makes it understandable for someone who hasn't gone to med school :D Keeps me occupied, though.

Shit bro glad your alive and well.... you will get back to your current lifts but for now take it easy.

Well you know wat the hd in my handle stands for Im sure :). I ride a 2005 ultra classic now tho. Its gonna be tough bro, wish I knew wat to tell u. Just dont give up on the gym. Lifting keeps people like us sane. You will be bac, & probably with a greater appreciation for things. Im glad ur still here & will recover. Wish u the best man. hd.

tb 500 brotha.. get to it..

there's a reason i don't ride anymore, the recovery from my accident was 2 yrs.. good luck

I feel your pain I went down in a turn a couple years ago on a zx10 (loved that bike) I broke my left femur in two it took well over a year to fully recover. Very frustrating and hard not to get depressed during recovery but before you know it bro it will just be a story to tell keep your head up

Hey man as a fellow rider I feel your pain , I have yet to lay down myR1 but just the other day I was ripping through the countryside when a big ass dog ran out in front of me and nearly did it. Lifting is a huge part
Of our life's and 3 months seems like eternity but you will be back at it and hopefully make a comeback to being stronger than ever! Look into tb500 the shit works at healing really well. Good luck

Ride it like you stole it!!

Its going to be a long road im afraid and you will likely have some permanent damage that just doesnt heal. I wouldnt be in a hurry to get back to where you are, the kind of impact you sustained is going to have caused a lot of tendon/ligament laxity which is going to take a long time to heal. Your strength will come back quick, but be smart about it and listen to your body.

Glad you came out of it alive and as in tact as you are, could have been a lot worse from the sound of it.

Sorry to hear that mate, but glad you're alive and could walk away from it, despite the fact you'll be out of action for at least 3 months.I low-sided my CBR-600 on gravel five years ago and separated my right shoulder, and even that tiny spill took a full year or so to fully recover from (I still ride to this day). You sound like a big guy though, so like mentioned previously, your muscle memory will serve you well and you'll be destroying those weights in no time!

Damn man hate to hear a fellow rider going down. I lost a good friend last week when he hit the back of a truck that pulled out in front of him. I still can believe he's gone. I've been riding almost 30 years and have lost too many friends on bikes but we know the risk. Like others have said, keep reminding yourself you ARE ALIVE! Could have just as easily went the other way. This will all be behind you before you know it.

Hey friend. I know its still early days, but how are things going? How are ya feeling? (body and mind)?
take care.
Hey Ox ... thanks Bro. I still have a lot of pain and am forced to just lie in bed the whole day ... 3 bloody weeks now ... it frustrates the crap out of me, but what can I do, eh?

tb 500 brotha.. get to it..

I'm looking into tb-500 now ... don't know if I'll be able to get it in SA, though, but I'll try, for sure. Thank you. I don't think I'll ever stop riding ... ... ever. ;)

Essie jump on some ostarine, the healing properties will probably do you some good bro

Keep that head up my friend!

Shit Bro ... I hope I don't have to be off for so long! I am going to see the Dr. again on Friday 10 Aug ... the x-rays and scans will probably then indicate how the healing is coming along and from there I'll get a better indication of all things important ... i.e getting back to bending bars. :supercool

Indeed ... it's only been 3 wks now and I am getting depressed and negative ... I try to combat it by playing XBOX 360 and re-watching a lot of the seasons and movies I haven't seen in a long time ... but every day, come my usual training time and I am still lying in bed ... I get all pissed off.

Well, Bro, let's hope it doesn't happen ... though it's kind of inevitable that at some point you lay it down. I've had a couple of scares with dogs and cats crossing the road and me missing them by inches ... it scares the shit out of me every time! LOL!!!!!

I looked into TB-500 ... HOLY SHIT that stuff is expensive! Based on the price and the recommendations from you guys it HAS to be good stuff ... but I cannot even CONSIDER forking out $450 PLUS import taxes PLUS custom duties PLUS VAT to get it to me in SA ... it's going to total up to $650 ... that's a lot of money and now I have to focus and fixing my ride. As soon as the doc clears me to return to work, I need to have my wheels running, ya know?

I just also keep looking at the bright side ... it could have been a LOT worse ... like ending up in a wheel chair or in a grave. I'll listen to my body, that's for sure ... I am just down, ya know. I've been lifting for so many years that is like breathing to me ... and without breathing, you DIE! LOL!!!!!

Thanks Bro. I low-sided my old GPZ1100 YEARS ago ... also on gravel going into a turn. Back then I only weighed 130 lbs ... so imagine me standing there afterwards trying to pick up that beast of a machine! LOLOL!!!!!! Currently I am standing at 225lbs and 16% BF ... so I am not that big a guy as I'd like to be :verygood:.

Thanks Soul ... yep, I lost a few good friends who also loved to ride, but such is life ... when your time comes, it comes, don't matter where you are or what you are busy doing ... slip in the shower and break your neck ... cross the street and get run over ... riding like you stole it and crash ... your time here is up. I kind'a know that by the time I am allowed to start training again and the first 3 months have passed ... this long home stretch will seem like it was a breeze, as with all things in life, but getting through it feels like forever ... lol!

Thanks Biggie ... but the only SARMS I can get a hold of here is Andarine. I'll read up on it a bit and see if it could work.

Well ... looking back, things could have been a lot worse. Props and respect to everybody on EF, though. I doubt I would've kept my sanity had not not been for the Bro's on here who pm'ed me regularly to find out what's happening. I am glad and proud to be called a memeber of this board and forum ... this is a brotherhood and nothing else.
