I grew up in the country and we had a chicken coop. I remember a many a saturday where we had to go pull heads of chickens for dinner next week. Dang things would bounce around for 1 minute without a head.

Now that was cruel - but it kept food on the table.

This argument is tough. Human populations are soaring and people need to eat - raising animals for the sole purpose of being eaten is the only way I can think of to feed everyone. You start making people kill their own food and every damn animal would be eliminated. Plus, if the animal is being raised for food - you can't gas it or drug it, it messes up the food.

it's true......fuck, if this were pre historic days we'd be killing chickens or animals other ways for our own survival. it wouldn't be much more humane, they'd be dying.......

however, as the most civilized and intelligent species, you think there could be a way to reduce the suffering if we're just farming food (some middle ground). It'll probably result in a higher cost of production, but personally i'd be willing to pay for that. 85% of america wouldn't

Ya know... I hated it also, I grew up on a farm also and would watch the twisting of the neck and all that eeww stuff... also the slaughter of a pig, and cow...

But it always kept food on our table too... and right now if we all be came vegetarians world hunger would sky rocket...

ITs a nice thought. Kosher meat is available but expensive.

I don't have the time, energy or inclination to plow through 180+ posts but I have to say, how nice for you that you have the choice. I was a lacto-ovo vegetarian for 11 years before I got sick and now I'm celiac and intolerant of soy. What should I eat? I guess a bullet

That being said, while the treatment of the geese is cruel, so is the treatment of ALL conventional feedlot animals. Battery chickens are debeaked and fed arsenic to keep their parasites down, cattle live their lives standing knee deep in boggy, shitty feedlots, milk cows that are nothing more than glorified mile fountains, never get to spend a moment with their calves, and don't leave their stalls except to go to the slaughter house, pigs that go insane from being cooped up, etc.

But why stop there? What about puppy, kitten and ferret mills? Even better, what of the lot of the kittens and puppies who are born exclusively for the purpose of being euthanized so biology students have something to dissect? What about the rats, mice, fish and rabbits that are bred exclusively to be fed, alive, to reptiles? What about animals that are still used in medical and cosmetic testing?

If you wear leather, bath, use any kind of personal beauty aid, and eat ANY kind of meat, fish included, you contribute, to tell yourself otherwise is just lying to yourself. If you don't shop 100% organic, then the plants you're eating were probably fertilized with deitrus of some parts of dead animals, if you have a carnivorous pet, then you contribute when you feed it.

And if you're going to go on about how horrible all that is, and how it should be eliminated, what about the people who make their livelihood by providing these animals for these industries? What if you're protests are preventing THEIR children from getting needed medical or dental care or a better education?

Fuckin' A...

I volunteer plenty.. in fact one reason I got a job was because I needed some new experience since I always volunteered and never "worked."

I do plenty of that. But what I don't get is I am fighting for something I believe in, so why put me down? I can't do EVERYTHING and fight for everything that people individually feel is appropriate, you know? And yes, Foie Gras is a pretty popular delicacy.

P.S. I've done soup kitchens and parks along with so many other things. :)

No one's putting you down, dumbass! We're just disagreeing. And in turn, you're telling us how wrong we are!!! Go save a duck and shut the fuck up...

Some of you weren't "just disagreeing." Go read some of the posts. Immediately everyone puts in their .02 - that's fine but dont put me down.

And yes, I'll go save a duck. I think they're cute. lol.

Strange, that's not how I see it. You went on the defensive and blasted everyone who disagreed with you. It's people like you who make me want to club a litter of kittens to death...
