Ever been close to collapsing in the gym??

I've trained really hard most every time I go to the gym, but I've only gotten physically sick or felt like I was gonna pass out 4x.

Once was back in 9th grade weight lifting class. The coach put us through this weights/plyometric/calisthenics/running workout that was just BRUTAL. Circuit style, no rest between execises except for getting to the next one. Every time we did that workout we were hurtin after it. Thank god it was only every 3-4 months. The first time I got dizzy and dry heaves before the final run and man I musta ambled that lap. I was on the ground hyperventilating and near passed out for about 15 mintues after.

Another time was in boxing training. It was a drill teh coach made us do at the end of every workout and my first time at it. Punch the heavy bag as fast and as hard as you can for 1 minute. No resting or stopping. 3 sets. Your rest was each other person doing it. Usually had 4-5 guys in the class. By the 3rd set I was gone. Had to excuse myself to the bathroom and puke.

Another was after a pretty rough squats workout followed by a set of 20 on the leg press. Nearly blacked out on the last rep.

Last, but not least was my BUD/S entry test(no I am not a navy seal nor did I go to bud/s). Passed it with flying colors, but I went all out. Didn't think earlier that eating a very large breakfast 1.5 hours before the test might be a bad idea...

And those are teh only 4 that really stand out as beign balls out. I could purposely wreck myself every time I went into the gym, but imho, wrecking yourself does not equate to gaining more muscle. It is good for a shock every once in awhile though.
 
I've come close to heaving many times. Only done it twice, I think.
Many times, doing squats or deads, I see stars before my eyes on the last rep or two.
 
I can only remember once. I have had close calls before (all from leg workouts). Heavy squats, then heavy leg press, then hack squats, and to finish off with leg extensions makes anyone queasy.

The one time I almost passed out, I was 19 years old. I had been training legs for about 3 months hard. I decided to try a 20 rep squat workout. It's the type of set where the weight is heavy, so that you can only do 12 reps, but through rest pause/breathing you are able to grind out 20.

I chose 225lbs, heavy for me back then. After the first 10 reps I was breathing hard and pretty fatigued. After 15 reps I could barely breathe and my knees were buckling just standing. In my mind I just kept telling myself I have to finish this set, if I don't finish I will be a failure. No women will like me, I will have no friends, my family will be disappointed in me. I just kept running these things through my head.

Closing in on 20 reps I dropped down into the squat position each time for my rep and was just hoping and praying that I could get back up. It took every ounce of anger and motivation I had to continue. My body didn't complete the set, the fear of failure did. I finally reached 20 reps and racked it as fast as possible and once I did I fell to ground and laid there. I was completely exhausted. I was seeing stars and getting tunnel vision, so I closed my eyes and focused on catching my breath.

I knew this was going to be one of those sets you remember and think back on when you need some inspiration to work hard. I think it was legitimately the first time in my weightlifting career that I gave absolute 100%.

After that set I cleaned up the weight and went off to leg press, lol. Well, that's the one time I can think of when I collapsed.
 
I vomited once on the squat rack...
It is a mixture of feeling embarrassed with feeling proud :)
 
I've passed out in the gym. That was doing fitness training rather than weights, though. We'd been split into teams and I had to go all out to win the final leg. I don't like to lose.
 
Every time I did an erg test when I was doing crew in college (for non rowers, an erg test is a set time or distance on the rowing machine where you give everything you have as if it's a race), I'd come close to puking and or passing out. Yesterday I pushed myself almost to the point of getting sick.
 
I nearly did ona few occasions beacuse of hyperventilating (on perpose) before a high rep set. I was going for 30 push presses with 70kg and decided to use my deep breathing rule and took in 30 deep breaths... after about 5 the room was spinning and after 10 I dropped the bar and fell against the wall. Hyperventilating can be very useful though on these kind of things...
