I worked for several years as a bartender and waiter. Then I went on to become a Conference and Banqueting manager in a Four Star hotel. Anyhow, I cut my losses about 4 years ago and trained up as a teacher.
However, an old friend rang me last night and asked me to help him in his Bar. All his staff had cried off for one reason or other!
The vast majority of customers were actually very pleasant, but as usual, about 10% of the clientele in every Bar in the world are complete Assholes.
What is it about common manners in Bars towards staff. You wouldn't believe the amount of "Hey Buddy, over here" or "Hey man, are you Jewish because you've you have a big nose to breath in all the air" comments. Then, a few other drunks had a few smart things to say as I mopped the floor at the end of the night.
I don't get it, why? All staff in the service sector want to do is serve food and pour drinks. Fair complements or complaints - No problem. Brainless comments - No thanks!
