I would think creating a special band would be cool too...

This girl in college I knew received an engagement ring and I swear it was like 1/128th of a carat. I have beach sands pebbles on my porch that are larger than this girl's ring.

i don't necessarily buy into that whole "two months wages" bs (although, at the time, i think i spent more than that) but i do think it's a beautiful tradition. . .honestly. . .the whole thing. . .shopping for the ring, buying the ring, getting down on one knee. . .the whole nine yards. . .i wouldn't have done it any other way. . .

my wife has 3 upgrades
first ring I was just a kid and kind of broke-1/2c princes cut
2nd ring I was in the army I got it with my first big sign on bonus-1 1/4c heart shaped in a heart shaped setting
3rd I saved a long time for it.2 1/2 c one big ass stone set in white gold cuz she had to have white gold and a band to go with it.
