I had to get some physical therapy for a lower back injury and surgery. One thing I learned that helped to relax, safely stretch and also strenthen my lower back was to first apply some wet heat (while laying down). The best way to accomplish this is to get a heavy towel and get it wet with *hot* water. Ring it out but not so much that it can't retain the heat. Then fold it twice and lay it on the floor and simply lay on top if it with it covering only your lower back. Stay like that until there is no more heat left in the towel (about 15 to 20 minutes). Then before you get up, bring your knees up to your chest one at a time to stretch these muscles. You don't have to extend your leg, keep it bent tightly at the knee. If you do this every day for a few days, or better yet, twice per day, for a few days, it will definitely help your lower back be relieved from tightness.
Hope that helps, bro.
