This is incredible difficult to answer in five minutes in the way that I'd like to, but I'll do my best.
I think each person has a different experience with the internet. Some people are able to brush off insults, others are not. Some people who isult do so because they think "it's the internet, why should they care?" and some are genuinely piles of steaming turd. I liked the fact that, when I first came here, a thick skin was part of the survival skills and it's not in my nature to coddle anyone, nor do I want to be coddled. But that's me, personally. Others here prefer the more padded version, and that's fine too. I've seen EF drift from the flaming and insults and so on, and within reason I'd hope that with the position of ombudsman I'd relieve som moderator stress and therefore make room for both those who are detached and have an "it's just the internet" attitude and those who view this place as a real community.
