EF Car Gurus! Lend Me Your Ear!

Wife has a BMW X5 which works great for her, me, 3 year old and my 13 year old.

But twins are coming in 14 weeks -- so we need to go bigger.

The only thing that really works is something huge. We've looked at the Lexus and it's close but not quite big enough (two car seats and a booster are huge).

She's considering a 2012 Cadillac Escalade ESV (whatever the long one is) with a Platinum package.

What's a reasonable price to pay?

And what is a 2008 BMW M5 in excellent condition worth?

Escalade is your choice in the upscale SUV category for sure.

As for the X5 (assuming it's the 4.8i and 50,000 or less miles on it), your trade-in value should be around 33,500. If you sell it, private sale could get you up to 36,000.

Fuck it rob, just go full on conservative meanie and get a ford excursion. Youll never want for space again

when is the best moment to buy a car? tax season? or do they actually jack up the prices because people have money? I've always wondered.....

land cruiser
about 8 years old
you don't look like a dweeb and have a solid vehicle

sort of like don't wash your ride before that first date
do it about 2 days earlier so it's clean, but not "squeaky clean"
like you're tryin' too hard

just show up at the dance with a five year old land cruiser some dermatogists's wife drove

I got the qx56 And love it. Not sure it is any bigger than the Lexus. Escalade is too bling crap for me. I would go with the Danali over it.

Plunkey, do you actually know the difference between the platinum and premium escalade or are you just picking the most expensive one? I personally don't think the difference is worth the money.

Also, your wife will pry hate trying to park the extended model

Buy American and go GM (Obama needs to get our money back); sell the M5 to some negro (preferably the negro typing this message) at a steep discount (consider it reparations but ignore the fact that I wouldn't be buying American); be sure and put some 24's on it.

I love Lexi personally.

she should rent a moving truck instead. Unless she doesn't have anything to move?

I mean she wants to permanently move from CR back to the US, she will need a car so she is buying one and needs to know when is the best time to purchase a car, I would think car dealers have sales around this season but maybe they jack prices because of the tax season, I dont know, hence why I was asking miplank when is the best time of the year to buy a car.

I believe the only real difference is the leather on the seats, correct?

Does the premium have the same grill as the platinum?

It pains me in every way to buy a Gubment Motors car, but if she's excited about it then I'm all in. I'm a pragmatist, not an ideologue.

What should the true price be for a 2012 Platinum Escalate EVS?

I believe that it's upgraded leather on the Front 2 rows of seats, LED headlights, and heated/cooled cup holders. It might also come standard with the power folding running boards, but I know you can get those on the regular escalade (my denali has em')

I'd guess around $80-$85,000 but i'm not certain.

Could you find out exactly what is reasonable? I'd even buy one from one of your contacts if the savings are worth the transport.

What ever you do plunkey make sure you buy something safe for my kids.

(1) Since you like the Escalade, it's clear that you are seeking some rap-star bling. So for the family car I'd suggest a Maybach 62, it should have enough room for three car seats as well as the parents and an older child. For the dad car I'd go with a Lamborghini Aventador, to complete the rap-star/NBA-star image.

(2) Does an Escalade really have anything over a fully loaded Tahoe or Suburban?

(3) How 'bout an Infiniti M56 or Lexus GX? And with that, a Jaguar XJ for the dad car, it's English so it will complement the castle.

(4) Finally, since you're not a car guy, a BMW M5 would be wasted on you. A regular 5-Series would be more than enough, or a Mercedes E-Class.

(5) And I suppose the Escalade is fine, if that's what the lady likes.

(5) Is what it's all about for me. I'm a pragmatist at heart. If she wanted a clown car with a funny horn I'd buy it for her.

Lol @ thanking someone for doing something that is in their financial interest...I do it as well but find it ironic.

I'm just doing it so I won't be a suspect when I beat the shit out of him while he's asleep.

They can't be your kids because they all have binocular vision and good backs.

I would like to kick your ass

So didja buy anything yet?

Not yet. There's rumors of a new body style areound 2014. She's thinking about a new 2011 now and then flipping it when the new body style comes out. I don't see the point though, because the savings on the 2011 will just come out of the trade-in on 2014.

It's up in the air ATM.

You don't know me bro...I've given shit away to a lot of good bros and helped people with auto purchases and never made a dime of any of them.

Oh and plunkey, don't make squids out of your new kids by buying them matching duc jackets. Let them learn from their "old" man not to be contemptible poseurs.

I'm with ya, we've owned BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes...I like BMW the best out of all three. Waiting one more year for the lease on our ML350 to end and looking at either a Denali or Escalade. I don't know about the ESV though, a bit too long for my liking.

I wish BMW had a bigger SUV. Have you looked at the GL450, even a GL550 would be cheaper than the Escalade Plat/Prem and a helluva lot nice on fit and finish. I know my wife wouldn't want the ESV for size alone, parking and turning would be a bitch for her.

Good luck Plunk

plank wtf, it's only 8:30 your time and you're up already

r u losing the lazy gene???

NICE, and those come with a turbo-Diesel too

If you do go with the Escalade, and you want a better price, get a Suburban and you're getting basically the exact same vehicle as the Escalade, except for the horn button and the grille.
