Dumb Bell Bench press question

Ok, so my question is how to get the barbells from the ground to the pushing position. I can push like 80's or 85's or maybe even more, but I'm only able to pull and get into position with 70's. So I sit down with the dumbells in hand, resting on my thighs. I try and swing them as I lie down on the bench to get to the push positon but I always fail to get there with anything above 70 pounds. How do you do this correctly, and how does a spotter help you correctly?

Oh nice, thanks for the video. What about for when the bench is set up in an incline position? That is what I usually do, and it seems it'd be harder to get into position that way than flat like ronnie does.

same way just less lean back -- the different types of benches to make it harder or easier -- I just recently switched gyms... the free benches here are a little higher set than the last gym which makes it a little more difficult, but you just have to get used to it.

work on dumbell power cleans or hang cleans, that get's the dumbells into starting position and then you just lean back into the incline bench position

A technique:

1) Set dumbells on the ground at the foot of the bench.
2) Stand between them
3) Lift them to your waist in a squatting motion
4) Sit down, placing one DB on each thigh
5) One leg at a time, kick the weights up to your chest as you're laying back
6) Start lifting

Yep, just kick the weights back. Lift your knees quickly and "throw" them into position with your legs.

That is the best possible description that could be written.

if you absolutely just can't kick the dumbells into position with your thighs. the only other thing i can think of is laying down with you hands in position and having a partner lift the dumbells up one by one into your hands. i've never done this before but i've seen it done.

it takes practice. i nearly embarrased myself trying to throw the 85s into military press position one time. but i since practiced, and it seems you just gotta sling the shit out of it.
