Don't like benching because my earphones always fall out

if all you realy care about is strength... bench is not at all the best exersise...
i do PL so i have to bench (and it is definately my weak point)... but if i didnt compete i would not waste my energy on it...
if i were you i would stick with weighted dips, military press, clean and jerks etc...

...and i know there are quite a few others here that feel the same way...
...now if you are training for looks... ...that is a completely different game... but you said strength, so that is what im coming from...

dips are considered squats for the upper body... keeping that in mind, remember what is the best way to strengthen your lower body......

I remember reading that the bench press is an inferior exercise to the standing press and incline press in terms of real world strength. The argument was that nobody really pushes anything from standing straight up...usually you're always leaning forward and using leg drive which would be impossible from standing straight up. I personally love the bench though, even though it is my weakest lift too.

Correct, if you tried to push away in a style similar to a bench press you would fall backwards.

I suppose bench work could help develop a better physique but so can lots of overhead work. I would be surprised if Dimas ever trained using the bench press.

I doubt he ever did. Most oly lifter don't to my (limited) knowledge. Benching and shoulder flexibility do not go together.
 
Hey guys, actually my main gripe with bench is it makes me less flexible. After each heavy bench day, I can't wipe my ass without bein in pain.

After reading the replies, it looks like the consensus is that bench is needed if one wants a good physique?
 
Sennheiser twist fit ear phones... I run, w/o and do just about everything in them and never had them fall out. Best ear phones ever made! They even have wireless ones now, but a bit more than i would like to spend, when you can get wires ones for $60.00 and mine have lasted for 4 years now.

This could really open a can of worms. Those of us who are more into oly lifting would argue that a perfect physique comes from years of heavy overhead lifting and squats. Those who like powerlifting and classic body building will say the bench is vital in building the perfect physique.

It comes down to your individual definition of the perfect physique.
 
yeah man. i never bench. maybe every once in while just to check my strength. i have always been leery about benching because i know so many people that got fucked up shoulders from it. my chest is fine without it
 
lol... i would have said pullovers as well, but his excuse was the earphones falling out... but yeah, pullovers are badass...

Yeah pullovers are really badass, once I saw a guy falling backwards because he was short and was using some heavy weight for pullovers across a bench, on the next sets he had a guy pushing down on his knees, but that first set was funny as hell :supercool

yes but also you saw a guy who was doing pullovers and the db was loose and came apart half way through a rep and the plates smashed his jaw and broke all this teeth :worried:

Damn i forgot that one! Yeah it was right in front of me, fucktard forgot to check the dumbell ( it was the db type you can load yourself), i got one of his teeth as proof of how stupid some people can be... he had surgery to repair his jaw and teeth.
