Deadlift Deception?

A good bud of mine (who's a monster btw) told me to avoid deadlifts if I want to stay lean because deadlifts tend to make you "soft in the belly". I dont like his advice so I wanted a 2nd, 3rd, 4th.....opinion.
And yes I'm aware it was one of Arnolds favs and that he had the waist of an 8 year old boy....but not everyone's a freak like Arnold.

I just don't believe in his advice, it might be more of an opinion than actual sound advice. As long as you train all your body parts none of them are going to get soft from lifting.

FUCKING BULL

IT IS A CORE EXERCISE

if you dont know what CORE is referrring to , look it up

DONT believe everything you hear!

Ughhh... DL's will not make your belly soft. They will blow up your Obliques, low back, and abds. They can give your midsection that "blocky look", but at a low body fat your abds will look better than those who don't DL/Squat heavy. Peace.

DLs are in my opinion the best core exercise. But everyone has their personal preferences. And as for it making your belly soft, thats like saying preacher curls make your triceps soft. Fucking absurd. If you like DLs then do them

deadlifts are the single most important and difficult lift in my routine. You want to get strong you need to deadlift no questions about it.

deadlifts are the shit love em doin 305 right now and lovin it u cant be strong without it also u should be able to bench as much as u deadlift if not u need to start

This Bro called it right.
Heavy deads thickened my waist, but it's not soft!
I think you could minimize the growth of your obliques by using a belt on all sets of deads and squats. At the same time you'd be minimizing the strength of your core as well.

total opposite is true. deadlifts when done correctly will improve your lower back and abdominal strength.

yeah usually you can DL more than bench

some guys can incline more than their flat bench, thats WHAT trips me out!

Great advice all the way around as usual. Thanks & peace.
BTW, I love DL's and will continue to hit em hard. The only "soft" area in my midesction is due to a little slackin on my part in the diet.
Go Steelers! Oh, and f*ck the Pats...Indy blew it!!!!

when your lifting the bar off the ground and you start to struggle , you will notice you start using your abs more
so moral of the story is no soft belly, but rock hard abs and sepration in them if your Bf is low

peace

best way to do Dead Lifts is to get on a platform then bend all the way down.

that way you can get FULL extention its fucking BRUTAL

try it!

Thats because they have not got any core strength. CS is essential for PLers & BBers.

Thats because they set the incline too high & recruit too much shoulder into the lift. I see it all the time at my gym. you should be able to press more weight in the decline position than the incline. that gives you an idea to your form. After all it is a chest exercise. Y0u tell em Ghost!

Use your quads & hams off the ground then recruit your lower back & stabilise with your abs. Reset each lift to ensure proper form. Go Goku mate DLs are one if not the best compound lift in a BBers routine.

Romanian Deadlifts, Ghost? For the hammies!

The DL is one of my personal fav's along with the squat and clean.

Anyone you tells you not to deadlift is lost.

It is one of the most basic, fundemental, functional movements... bending down and picking something up off the floor.

Everyone can benefit from this lift, from elite athletes to our grandmothers.

Chalk up.

being leaner in the waist is an advantage when pulling. and check out how "soft" john inzer is. has a 700+ pull @165....

Deadlifts are for men only.....

=]

But in all seriousness, the deadlift will crush the abs/core/back/legs/etc. The deadlift is my complete body workout, and i love it.

My dead is my favorite lift, my squat is the best, but my fav is deadlift, and when summer time comes, i have a nice HARD six pack that shows through without me flexing.....soft abs my ass!

Or load the bar up with 35#ers and set up as normal. Or as close to normal as you can get. Pulling from a deficit is hard as fuck. This will give you those THICK spinal erectors that the ladies just can't get enough of :p
