someone told me that they wear wacthing this thing on tv they were showing the ER room in the hospita that this guy got parayzed?how i go heavy and need to know some info hear...there are people going up to 700 pounds or more and what happened to that guy?

Deadlifts are dangerous even with proper form. Could snap, twist, strain your lower back and vertabrae, which obviously, could result in paralyzation. Just try to keep with moderate progression and don't go slapping 2 extra plates on each side. How many times have I heard lift with your legs and not with your back at work? Deadlifts are exactly what not to do :)

YellowD - in the deadlift you lift with your legs, I believe you are thinking of the stiff legged version which is not nearly as effective. The powerlift version is inititated w/ legs and they remain involved for nearly the entire movement.

This is the movement you train so that you don't get injured. Squats can twist also. It's all a matter of proper form and being careful. The reason people get injured is that there is no way to really cheat this lift - other than bouncing the bar on reps. People allow their form to breakdown because they haven't trained the lift correctly to build the full body strength necessary.

As far as injury - I've seen some nasty videos of benchers being crushed. It has yet to even phase the bench lovers. Put in the effort on the deadlift and you will love the results.

I've been told by a PT that most of the weight is supported by L4/L5, and if a ligament tears, the situation becomes unstable and a disc would bulge. But being paralyzed? That's got to be a freak accident. That's a bad case of "Shit Happens."

One should ALWAYS squat inside a squat rack or inside the power rack. I don´t know why some people don´t do this.

Injury on the squat and deadlift are cause by poor form and/or people trying to lift too heavy for them.

Squats and deadlift are the most powerful tools to increase strengh and overall body mass. Just do them with care.

the best thing you could do for doing quats is to do them in a squat rack....even with somebody spoting you....that way, if you spotter doesn't catch the weight, you still have something there to catch it. I even do use those with light weight. As far as dealifts go....it's all in the from....I've seen guys do it stiff leg and do it fine....and I've seen guys do it with all legs and slip a disk....either way, you gotta be carefull and always wear the right kinda gear(I mean like a weight belt, knee raps, etc....)

spelt is not a word. the past tense of spell is spelled. :)

I've never heard of that type of injury in deadlifting..but in examining the anatomical and biomechanical aspects of the movement...its possible....scary thought..
