The company mainly works with pre-existing pharma brand plans to put together web sites. If our strategist is lucky he's asked to contribute a web plan before the brand plan is submitted. I'll be really honest, our web designs are sub par and basically brochureware. The sites lack innovation and any real interactivity. It's difficult working in this type of environment when you're used to working with extremely talented, creative and innovative people.
The forum is the leading marketing literature for new-to-be-released drugs. It precedes the reps into the doctor's office, the TV ads, and all things pharma.
The role of the web in pharma marketing remains to be seen. Because target audiences are so narrow, putting the info out there for all to see is not beneficial.
I feel sorry for you. I am friendly with the publisher of the forum and I have seen phrma marketing done well. Hope things get better.
