So I've pretty much never admitted this before but I have a disease which affects my body's collagen production. In short, my skin/ligaments/tendons/anything made of collagen is stretchier than normal. Its called ehlers danlos. I have a very mild form of the disease, if you look it up all youll find is horror stories of people who cant go a day without dislocating everything in their bodies and so on and so forth. Because of this I was warned against heavy lifting years ago, and to be honest, I think its a large reason for my (percieved) lack of strength,
I'm on 2g a day of epa/dha from fish oil, and taking orange triad multi which has glucosamine/chondroitin/msm/hyaluronic acid.
Sometimes my joints will feel really out of whack, like my knees, sometimes ankles, even my hips will feel the odd twinge, and especially my shoulders which have dislocated a few times each other my 25 year life span. I'm looking into certain therapies, namely prolotherapy, whereby they strengthen the tendons and ligaments by injecting a solution combined sometimes with HGH which basically induces the body to 'repair' the tissue and has seen great success - but there are a LOT of hoops to jump through to get this and it is an incredibly expensive process, even with ontario health care.
Anyway, I know there are certain steroids and other compounds which are known to be favourable to joint health/rebuilding, as well as growth hormone and other peptides, but I don't entirely know where to start. I found a 1986 article on how HGH didnt show any helping affects in EDS patients, but coudlnt actually view the publication. Regardless, my thoughts are as follows: my collagen synthesis is weakened, this is genetic and will never change, but I am still able to make it, and by building up more or allowing my body to rebuild what is inherently damaged more easily, I should be able to stave off any serious complications for a long time, as long as I remain smart about things.
I am willing to play guinea pig on myself, and even though I have not been lifting that long I am considering running an osta cycle at my 6 month mark mainly to see if it helps out with little tweaks and pains I get in the aforementioned joints. While I am not a huge fan of needles I am not entirely opposed to the idea of using growth hormone derivitives and peptides just to see if they would help in any way.
Its not horrible and its not debilitating, and I lift within reason without any pain, and personally, I am not going to stop lifting. In a nutshell, I am not going to confine myself to a wheelchair now, to stave off being put in one later in life.
Sorry for the novel, hard to keep something like this concise.
What do you guys think?
