Changing up my routine

I'm looking to switch up my routine a little bit because it's getting stale and isn't working like it used to
I've been doing the classic 10 to 12 rep
looking to switch to where I do one heavy set to failure and do around the 5 to 6 rep range. and then I can do a lighter set to failure and stick to 10 to 12 reps that way. how much tension should I be putting on the muscle during this? I'm really trying to bodybuild not looking to powerlift
I always try and mix it up to keep body guessing
