Car Question

gripweight

New member
So my girl's 2003 neon broke down, the radiator needs to be replaced, transmission is fugged, and the heat and air havent worked for a while. The shop said it will cost her 700 to fix but i doubt that and will be more. The car has over 100,000 miles on it and she only owes 800 left on it. Shes in school and only working 25 hours a week and if she gets it fixed all her money in savings is gone. And if the car fucks up again she really doesnt have any money to do anything besides be shit out of luck.

Supposedly her step dad can fix it for 200 but who knows and if that doesnt work shes out a quick 200.

Should she just say fuck it and get a new car?

What is her major/gpa.

in this economy she may want to get used to driving a POS

just sayin'

neons are terrible cars. if she owes 800 on it and the repair is 700, she should just pay it off and sell it as/is. she should be able to get a few hundred for it to help offset the loss and put towards a new vehicle.

in before the standard C&C response: tell her to buy a one owner, low mileage, Civic/Corolla

If the trans is gone let it go... unless u can get a new trans cheap the radiator is easy if the guys a good mechanic and has access to parts cheap or free mabye he CAN fix it that cheap

Actually those replacement parts are dick cheap. Just type "used car part finder" or somesuch into any search engine and you'll find several sites dedicated to used car part searches.

If that trans is a manual, a used (with shipping) might be $350, radiater cheaper still.

Dude seriously, when it comes to old used cars, better the demon you know. This car's history you know. Another used car is a total unknown quantity and I don't give a crap if it is a honda or whatever. If it's been shit on it could be trouble waiting to happen.

Now all of this assumes there's someone around who has the interest and time to do the work. I could do all that work singlehanded in a weekend easy, but others may not even want to try it.
