Why the hell has gas prices here in my surroundings gone up so damn much in just this past week? I am talking it went from $3.30 something to $3.53 in just 1 week..I am afraid to look at the pumps as I pass through...

A lot of reasons; Summer mixes are more expensive, price of oil, weak dollar and demand are some basic reasons.Also, anytime something "disruptive" happens in OPEC countries the market price of oil will go up. I'm sure there are some conspiracy theories too but those are the basic reasons, the Summer mix increase everybody knew was coming and I believe the switch over was last week.

I was talking to Bret Michaels, Kip Winger, Dave Mustaine, Dio and Gary Coleman yesterday - and we all agreed..

The US dollar still commands the world. Countries that buy oil all hold considerable dollar reserves to facilitate this purchase. They all use the dollar and use it extensively.

These dollars make their way to the banks of whichever country. When they get to the banks, the banks exchange the dollars for local currency, so that the depositor of the currency can pay their local workers and suppliers in the local currency.

Therefore, the value of the local curency created depends on the value of the dollar vs. that currency. In this manner we export inflation.

The inflation happening in the Middle East is also directly tied to dollar inflation.

Rice, Oil, Our dollar crashing? China and Europe giving us billions to keep us afloat? Think it's coincidence? Nope ma'am. btw: Your salary dropped this year, and I bet you never even knew.

Don't worry, along with our war spending at a deficit - i'm sure the Fed will do it's best to continue to help the dollar.

Well I think that it is avoidable. I know up here it spikes yearly it will go up then drop in May then go up again until september. Although this is a high price out of no where like that...I don't see how it can just be allowed. I obviously get the aspects in a sense as to why everything goes up, I am not totally retarded....But like I said I think it is all avoidable.

it's not the actual crude oil supply. oil has to be refined....the refineries can't refine enough of it to keep up with the demand so prices go up

During the political season I watch all the cable networks. The other night Bill had a guy on that tried to explain a commodity and the oil market. Bill kept insisting there was some guy somewhere that set the price of oil.

1) Hippies won't allow new refineries. Where do you store that oil? Can't hurt the spotted owl.

2) This isn't after WWII where we rule, and the rest of the world is in shambles. Rest of the world has strong currency, massive demand and money - and whatever you pump - other countries can outbid you for that same oil.

Think oil as a item on ebay. And the other guys have way more money than you. You can see how prices rise as oil is traded as a COMMODITY. Not a charity.

Should've been nice to Chavez and those damn "Ragheads" back in 2003. Now they're getting the last laugh.

you have a rare few who actually really truly have pure motives getting into politics and an even smaller few who stay pure. the rest just end up looking out for whats going to make them the most money in campaign contributions (legal) or how they can funnel favorable legislation, grants and contracts to their buddies who then tkae care of them one way or the other.

Example: Pharmaceutical companies give big bux to Senator XYZ, so Sen. XYZ fights against the rights of fellow citizens and for the drug companies. Then Sen. XYZ's wife gets a consulting contract with a drug company. funny how that works.
