Let's the pulley machine goes to 180lbs (all plates)

How much can the cable handle?
180lbs? 200lbs? 250 lbs?

I'm asking that because I was using the low pulley for pull throughs with all the plates (180 lbs) plus 20 more lbs (2 small plates) on top until the cable broke

They've changed the cable but I don't want to break it again.... :worried:

Are you talking about plate loaded pulley machines? If so I'm not 100% Sure but some cables can handle several hundred pounds. It most likely broke with wear and tear, not the result of using it once.

Something like that

You're not supposed to use more weight than the plates but I guess there's a security margin

Yeah, faulty equipment bro. Lack of maitnence and inspections. Go see a doctor for your injury and contct your attorney

I've seen cars hanging from cables thinner than those used in the gym, different cables I know, but even a standard 8mm gym cable should hold 5x what the stack is. Think of it like this: a cable does not hold weight, it holds FORCES. If you accelerate the weights quickly, the force traveling through the cable could get up to 3x the weight of the plates when hanging static. It's so easy to build a strong cable; and nearly as cheap. I would blame poor maintainence.

I found a bolt on our gym floor that had been shorn in half and fallen from a machine. I pointed it out to an "instructor" who quickly kicked it under the machine...
