Bicep/tricep/elbow pain

Elementality

New member
Hey, Ive had this ongoing pain in both arms <mainly in my right>. It is like a tightening, aching pain in my elbow/bicep/tricep area. I never feel it when I lift, only when i am resting OR swimming<really feel it while im swimming>. I know it was either from lifting incorrectly, or, from arm wrestling my friend intensely without warming up.

Any ideas?

You are new to training, your ligaments and tendons do not grow as rapidly as the muscle does.

You have probably irritated them by over-training or lifting too heavy too often.

Train legs only for two weeks and give your arms a break.

If you still have problems, then you would be wise to seek the advice of a physio.

Arm wrestling caused it without a doubt - it can cause some pretty serious injuries ... even fractured bones.

It's like anything else, if you want to arm wrestle you should do specific training for it, otherwise give it a miss...especially if your opponent is of similar strength to you.

So maybe just lay off all upper body movements for two weeks or so?

If it hurts when you swim, it must be quite bad because swimming doesn't offer up much resistance against the arms.

Perhaps going light on your upper body movements will be ok. It depends a lot on whether you've damaged a tendon, ligament or muscle.

Have you tried icing them?

I agree a lot with what Tat said, you've probably aggrevated a tendon in there. When this occurs the sheath around the tendon gets inflammed and causes the pain/tightness. Rest, ice, and maybe throw in a little advil for a few days to see if that helps. If not I'd suggest a trip to the doc to make sure you didn't do anything serious.

Cheers,
