Back Surgery again

Hello everyone,

Does anyone have any experence in getting back into shape after back surgery???

I'm 36 yrs old 5' 11" was 255 jan 04 now 200lbs I have not been able to walk without the aid of some major drugs( 200mg Duragesic 72 hour patch and oxycodone 5/325 T ) since my 2nd surgery july 16 they removed the L-5 disk and found a ton of scar tissue all over the S-1 nerve hence the never ending pain in my hip and down my leg... To make this short I need to stop the new scar tissue from attaching to the nerve again and allow it to heal.

Thanks for everyones input,
James

Scar tissue may form, this is how the body repairs itself vs further harm, unfortunately sometimes it can be harmful due to where and how much forms. Follow your doc's and therapist's advice and instructions, to rehab your back. only when they tell you to move on to the next step do so. Allowing your body time to heal is the most important way you can help yourself. Afterward, you can begin to enter some strengthening, depending how extensive your condition was, and how the surgery was, will to a degree dictate your potential to return as before.
Hope I helped.

Good luck on your recovery, I have herniated disks and surgery has been recommended but so far I have opted not to.

stingray,

be carefull in waiting Thats what I did 8 yrs ago I waited for two years and the original MRI showed only L-5 herniated.. after time i blew out L-4 as well... I lucked out and only need a disksectomy for both... no pins or fusion... you don't want steal in your back!!!!!! but because I waited and listened to everyone else who was not a doctor I blew out a second level. How bad is the herniation??? both of mine were over 9mm!!!! I can go on for ever on this subject.....If you have any questions ask away and If you can't find a surgen that you trust the best place on this earth is The Hospital for special surgery in New York City Dr. Frank Commisa look him up online. Or here is another south shore Brain & Spine specialist west Islip new york Dr. William McCormick....

good luck

If you ever see BIGJAKE on the boards, ask him the same question and you'll get some feedback that may help. He has also gone through 2 procedures. Just in case you don't get around to it, I am going to send him a message to read your thread.
